Summer is officially here!
Yep, that’s right, this past Saturday marked the start of the sunny season, which means going to the beach, eating copious amounts of ice cream with friends, endless roadtrips… Or maybe not. With coronavirus restrictions still in place, it’s still up in the air as to what summer (and its associated activities) will look like. We’re hoping we get to have at least some fun in the sun, even if that means having to abide by the two-metre social distancing guideline. There are tons of activities we can do that don’t require us to be sat down or standing right beside our friends!
As you’re probably well aware by now, partially because you too have made it a regular activity, one thing we’ve ramped up on whilst in lockdown is scouring through social media. We’ll be the first to admit it’s not a very healthy habit, but we’ve officially run out of options, in terms of activities. We’ve watched everything on our Netflix ‘To Watch’ list, gave learning a new skill a try and even reorganised our flat – what else is there left to do, other than spend our time on Twitter? See, we knew you wouldn’t be able to think up an answer.
Animals can teach us a lot about human behaviour
The more I look at pigeons in the park trying to mate the more I think some men/boys must have really learnt a lot from them when it comes to approaching women/girls.
— Elisa Spigariol (@doyouknowellie) June 21, 2020
We wanted to start off this edition of Tweets of the Week on a serious topic, especially given the stories going around social media at the moment. While this tweet from Elisa Spigariol might elicit a laugh from some, the message behind it is clear. We need to keep discussing consent and the right way to respect someone when they respond ‘no’ to your advances, whether they be romantic or otherwise.
Sex isn’t something people should expect, nor should it be something forced upon another person. We think that needs to be better instilled into the minds of everyone within society.
Such an adorable doggo!
What a Floofy-Newfie ❤️🙈 #bear #newfoundland pic.twitter.com/qDebK8X57y
— Dr. Mike Varshavski (@RealDoctorMike) June 20, 2020
How could we not include this picture of Dr. Mike‘s pup, Bear? Not only is he the floofiest dog we’ve ever seen, but just look at that face! He’s absolutely adorable!
What’s your opinion on napping?
I’m jealous of people who can nap during the day :( 😴
— Jayden Bartels (@jaydenbartels) June 21, 2020
This tweet from Jayden Bartels has got us thinking. While there are some out there who love napping, others hate it, as they feel groggy and disoriented upon waking up. So we ask you: are you pro-nap or do you much prefer waiting until bedtime to get some much needed Zzzz?
Please, don’t die
Just want everyone to know that if I die tomorrow from eating chips from a recently cleaned oven (the chips tasted a bit… odd) then charge @notcorry with homicide
— Evan Edinger (@EvanEdinger) June 18, 2020
We don’t think you have to worry about dying because NotCorry cleaned the oven, Evan Edinger. If anything, you should be thanking him, for now your insides are clean as well!
#Relatable
him: what’s wrong
what she says: it’s fine
what she means: i will never be a pallid prep school boy and robin williams will never instruct me to rip out the introduction of the poetry textbook titled understanding poetry by dr. j evans pritchard begone j evans pirtch— savannah brown (@savannahbrown) June 18, 2020
We think Savannah Brown has hit the nail on the head with this tweet. Take note, boys, this is what your partner really means when they tell you they’re ‘fine’.
The things you miss whilst in lockdown
I would pay £200 for a pedicure and I’m not even joking that is how much I need one 😂
— Grace 🌱🕯 (@GraceFVictory) June 20, 2020
This tweet from Grace F. Victory is quintessential lockdown! While she desperately wants a pedicure, we’ve been itching for the opportunity to get a new tattoo. Now that parlours are slowly starting to re-open, we’re hoping we get our chance soon!
Everyone’s a fan
So the author of Love, Simon followed me and commented on my Instagram and my little gay heart burst so I'm sharing it here because maybe I'm born with it or maybe it's quarantine pic.twitter.com/CmnMSBKBMK
— ˗ˏˋ niki albon ˊˎ˗ 🏳️🌈 (@NikiAlbon) June 20, 2020
Did you know your favourite YouTubers are just like regular people? Just as you get excited about them liking and/or retweeting your posts, they too get giddy over their fave celebrities acknowledging them. Example: Niki Albon‘s reaction to Becky Albertalli following him on Instagram.
Become stronger as a person
i’m telling you, going through things alone really does build character.
— ALIYAH MARIA BEE (@aliyahmariabee) June 19, 2020
Aliyah Maria Bee is right. While going through things alone might be difficult, know that you’ll come out the other side a much stronger and more capable person. You just have to believe in yourself.
#BookLoverProblems
she says, with a pile of 6 unfinished books stacked next to her
— Viola | A Piece of Viola 🌟 (@violahelen_) June 18, 2020
We relate to this hardcore, Viola Helen! We always find ourselves purchasing new books to read while disregarding the stack of books on the shelf that we have yet to touch. It’s an addiction, we swear!
The bird is judging you
Didn’t think I’d be guilt tripped by a pigeon today but here we are pic.twitter.com/yr4UF4GIG7
— Phil Lester (@AmazingPhil) June 18, 2020
We don’t blame the pigeon for guilt-tripping you, Phil Lester. If you left us out in the rain, we’d be pretty upset ourselves.
So there you have it…
Our favourite YouTuber tweets from the past week! See, while we might have developed an addiction to social media whilst in lockdown, it has resulted in us finding some pretty awesome tweets for these articles. Who can be mad about that? Not us!
