Facebook Gaming is looking to expand the ways gamers can monetise their live streams.
The site announced on 15 June that it would be expanding access to its Fan Subscriptions feature, as well as allowing access to Live Ads during streams.
In regards to the Fan Subscriptions expansion, Facebook Gaming is now allowing more creators in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, the UK and the United States to access the feature. Those who achieve an average of 250 returning weekly viewers will be eligible, with the site explaining in a blogpost:
“Why 250 returning weekly viewers? We’ve found returning viewers to be a strong indicator of a loyal community. Creators who hit this benchmark have built a strong community and are more likely to be successful on Fan Subscriptions.”
Those wishing to see if they qualify can do so via the Creator Studio, under the ‘Insights’, then ‘Loyalty’ tab.

Facebook Gaming has also enabled Live Ads for all partnered gaming creators. Viewers of partnered creators may now see any of the three ad formats when watching a live stream: pre-roll ads before the stream begins; an image ad below the stream; or a mid-roll ad that plays in the video player, while the stream broadcast continues in a smaller window.
The site is also currently testing a new way for partnered creators to monetise previous live streams, and is working on a new ad format, called Live Breaks. This format is designed to “give gaming creators more control over the ad experience for their viewers”. These 90- or 180-second ads will blend creator-generated content, such as clips and highlights, with traditional advertisements.
