News of the donation comes during the Black Lives Matter protests that are occurring within the United States and worldwide.
YouTube has announced it’ll be donating $1 million to the Center for Policing Equity, in what it calls a stance in solidarity and an effort to address the social injustices many face.
We stand in solidarity against racism and violence. When members of our community hurt, we all hurt. We’re pledging $1M in support of efforts to address social injustice.

The video platform shared the news via Twitter, writing:
“We stand in solidarity against racism and violence. When members of our community hurt, we all hurt. We’re pledging $1M in support of efforts to address social injustice.”
The Center for Policing Equity is a non-profit organisation that “continues to simultaneously aid police departments to realize their own equity goals as well as advance the scientific understanding of issues of equity within organizations and policing”.
In addition to its own donation, YouTube is also asking viewers to pledge money to the organisation.
A video uploaded to the site’s YouTube channel on 31 May features a donation prompt on the right-hand side of the page, allowing users to directly give money to the cause.
