We love a jack of all trades.
Nathan Zed has been entertaining us with his videos since back in 2011, when he was just 14 years old. From its creation, Nathan’s channel has included a variety of types of videos, such as social commentary and sketch comedy. As time has passed, we’ve had the privilege of watching him add more and more genres and topics to his video repertoire. Not shying away from trying something new, Nathan has uploaded travel vlogs, mental health-related videos, and content sharing his thoughts on pop culture trends, all of which he nails. Though this provides us with endless fun as a viewer, it makes the task of picking our favourite five videos an unenviable one.
So, with that in mind, let’s jump into our Five of the Best: Nathan Zed videos!
Whenever an exam starts off too easy | Nathan Zed
Sketch comedy can be hard to find on YouTube if you’re not looking for it, so we’ve decided to kick off our list with an example of Nathan excelling at it.
A seasoned pro in sketch comedy, Nathan’s short but sweet video encapsulates the struggles a lot of us are going through – or have gone through. His internal monologue stressing over having to defuse a bomb and deliver a baby is everything we’ve come to love about his comedy videos. We have to admit, Nathan’s catalogue is one of our favourite ways to keep laughing while we’re stuck at home.
I quit social media for 4 months. | Nathan Zed
It’s something a lot of us have considered doing, but Nathan actually went and did it. He quit social media for four whole months, and took nine months off from making videos, culminating in a video about his experience.
Inspired by the late Mac Miller and his own frustrations of being “tired of things controlling” him, Nathan offers his learnings from his detox. The video is all about him feeling healthier and less stressed without social media, a tale that could inspire any of us feeling anxious about our existence in the internet-sphere. It’s one of Nathan’s more serious and vulnerable videos, and was an easy pick for our highlights from his channel.
Ned’s Declassified: The NEW Survival Guide | Nathan Zed
Now for an iconic video: Nathan’s collaboration with Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide actor, Devon Werkheiser. Another short feature, this video packs a punch and is quite frankly Oscar-worthy. We don’t want to ruin the excellence of the moment, so we suggest you just go ahead and watch it.
It’s one for the books, for sure, and Nathan notes that it was made possible by his previous video, Zed’s Declassified: COLLEGE SURVIVAL GUIDE, his updated version of the show’s tips and tricks.
I Went on an Arctic Expedition | Nathan Zed
Much to his surprise, Nathan was offered the chance to travel with the Arctic National Wildlife Expedition, in partnership with The North Face.
A bit left of field to those who have been watching him for a while, Nathan’s first travel vlog is just another example of his versatility. The video is aesthetically pleasing, educational and, of course, funny. A wonderful combination we can’t help but want more of.
NASH GRIER RANT | Nathan Zed
As a finale, we have to mention Nathan’s most popular video, which put him on a lot of our radars: his response to that Nash Grier video.
Uploaded back in 2014 when Vine was still around, a lot has changed, but the video is still noteworthy nonetheless. Nathan calls out the subject of the video’s hypocrisy, sexism, as well as Nash and his friends’ consequential apologies and defences. Nathan’s rant will go down as one of the best breakdowns of a controversial video, perfectly dissecting a collection of arguments.
So there you have it…
Our Five of the Best: Nathan Zed videos! If there was going to be an honourable mentions section, it would be every other video on his channel, so we apologise if your favourite didn’t make the list. After nearly a decade of hilarious, informative and just plain entertaining uploads, we can’t wait to see what the next decade brings for Nathan!
