What did your life look like at 20?
Were you in college, studying your brains out in the hopes of landing your dream job? Were you travelling the world with your buddies, seeing the world’s natural wonders? Or perhaps you were an online magazine that had not yet been created and thus only existed within the void. (Wow, that just got really deep.) For many of us, our 20th year is far behind us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce about what was life back then.
Whilst in lockdown, many of our fave creators have been looking back on fonder times and sharing these memories on Twitter. Using the hashtags #MeAt20 and #Aged20, they’re giving us a glimpse into their lives before they were big internet stars and it’s been an interesting journey! Here are just a few of our favourite tweets.
Big glasses
#MeAt20 – 2010
A ball of low self-esteem masked with huge confidence. It’s possible I occasionally wore these plastic glasses unironically. pic.twitter.com/Kx3eFpPSpo
— guy larsen (@ThisIsGuido) April 19, 2020
OMG, remember when everyone was all about the large glasses, Guy Larsen? Those were such different times!
The first of many!
#Meat20 – Teaching my first ever proper English class. That class felt really big and scary. I had no idea how many students I’d end up teaching 🥰 pic.twitter.com/UKPHDaqvt8
— Lucy Bella Earl (@LucyBellaEarl) April 18, 2020
This is a really cool throwback, Lucy Bella Earl! It’s always encouraging to see how far you’ve come, and we’re glad at how much you’ve grown as a teacher.
The hair!
#MeAt20 🤣 7 years ago 🙊 pic.twitter.com/8mTVAon2Ni
— 🌼🌺 LDShadowLady 🌺🌼 (@LDShadowLady) April 17, 2020
OMG, we totally forgot you used to have red hair, LDShadowlady! We’re so used to the iconic pink!
That fashion!
Ok here goes… #MeAt20. Moved out of the college dorm and into a house furnished with just candles and alcohol.
I apologise for the leopard print. In my defense I was drinking Crème De Cassis straight from the bottle.
And a pic of me with vodka jelly (Jello-shots), of course. pic.twitter.com/7sl7R43Ctl— ☆ Kate Swan ☆ (@SwanStarDesigns) April 17, 2020
Why are you apologising for the leopard print, Kathryn Swan? That was such a look!
A classic Philly D throwback
Fine. I'll jump on the trend.#MeAt20 😂😂😂
fucking hell… pic.twitter.com/ZCqroMGiIn
— Philip DeFranco (@PhillyD) April 16, 2020
We LOVE it when Philip DeFranco shares old photos of himself with the internet. Each is as funny as the last and reminds us that everyone goes through that awkward phase. (Some just stay in it longer than others.)
Parents take the best photos
I wasn't planning on taking part in #MeAt20 but then my dad randomly sent me this picture of me at 20 so I feel obliged to share it…
I think this was taken just before we sold my drumkit as I didn't live with my parents anymore & couldn't bring them with me to my student flat pic.twitter.com/krAQJWzsxo
— Charli Marie (@charliprangley) April 17, 2020
Aww, look at how cute 20-year-old Charli Prangley was!
Is this the same Sean?
Not exactly 20 but close enough #MeAt20 pic.twitter.com/cO1yRGAll9
— Jacksepticeye (@Jack_Septic_Eye) April 17, 2020
It’s hard to believe this is the same Sean McLoughlin we watch today! The haircut, the Lamb of God shirt – it’s all so different!
Scene Queen
Me #aged20…. because it was last year lmao. pic.twitter.com/pAk3Q9Srps
— 𝖊𝖒𝖔 𝖒𝖔𝖒 (@YasmineSumman) April 17, 2020
Yasmine Summan is – and always will be – the ultimate Scene Queen, and that’s a fact!
College life
Sure, let's do it…#MeAt20 pic.twitter.com/WeXqWvvHh4
— Hank Green (@hankgreen) April 17, 2020
We think 20-year-old Hank Green is the epitome of everyone currently in college.
Ageless
#MeAt20 pic.twitter.com/izpZqmnEDY
— Rebecca Jane (@BeckieJBrown) April 16, 2020
Okay, what is your secret, Rebecca Brown? You look like you haven’t aged a bit! Are you sure you’re not an immortal being?
20 was a good age
#Aged20 was definitely a turning point for me, filled with the highest highs and lowest lows…
I fell in love, had the best uni year of my life, whilst also being admitted to hospital and later diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder.
These moments really made me who I am today! pic.twitter.com/SlmO1UUqmE
— Brandon Wisdom (@BrandonWisdomYT) April 17, 2020
We too experienced many highs and lows when we were 20, Brandon Wisdom. We credit them for helping us become the people we are today, and while it might have been a confusing year, it’s one we won’t soon forget.
Everyone has two sides to them
#MeAt20 was a tale of two parties.
1) Standing nicely poised and having engaging conversation.
2) utterly pillocked and attempting to regain feeling in my own face.
Choose your fighter. pic.twitter.com/wt5lnPScuu
— Daniel J. Layton (@DanielJLayton) April 19, 2020
Which 20-year-old Daniel J. Layton would you pick in a fight: the one who’s composed and is good at engaging conversation or the one who is so drunk that he can’t feel his face?
Long hair, don’t care
me #aged20 , i miss my long hair bro pic.twitter.com/QW2DRENSwW
— aleks (@aleksisnotcool) April 17, 2020
Ugh, we’re the same way, Aleks Tutak! We miss our long, luscious locks so much. We know shorter hair is considered more “grown-up”, but there’s something fun about having it long!
Saving the best for last
Talk about a glow up… #MeAt20 pic.twitter.com/GOr5BHmU2Y
— TenEighty UK (@TenEightyUK) April 17, 2020
We think we can all agree that this is the best glow-up out of them all.
Well, that was certainly a throwback…
We can’t believe how long it’s been since we were 20 years old, and so much has changed since then. When we started writing up this article, we didn’t think it would make us feel as old as we are, but, alas, we’ve been left feeling ancient and like we’ll wither away into dust at any second. Anyone up for mid-life crisis?
