Instagram is hoping to draw more people to its IGTV app.
The company told The Verge that it is completely redesigning how the app looks, with the aim of getting users to create and share more long-form content.
Instagram is looking to re-design the homepage. The update will now feature a creator’s video up top, which is tailored to each user based on who they follow and whose content IGTV feels might be of interest to them.
IGTV will also be getting a Discover tab, similar to that currently on Snapchat, allowing users to discover new creators to follow. Currently, the app only displays videos that are receiving a lot of views and those from creators users already follow.
A new hands-free recording mode has also been announced.
The company is looking for draw more Instagram users to its IGTV app. Instead of the current freeze-frame system, which allows creators to show a still from their IGTV videos in their Instagram Stories, they will now be able to post 15-second clips.
Instagram hopes this will lead to users clicking through to watch the videos in their entirety.
