Popular social media websites such as Facebook and TikTok have introduced coronavirus tabs to reduce the spread of fake news.
Facebook’s mobile app now has a COVID-19 information centre, allowing users to keep up-to-date with the latest updates in their countries and abroad. As well, the new feature will ensure accurate information is readily available in an attempt to quash the influx of fake news in relation to the virus.

Those who access the information centre will be linked to recognised health organisations within their country and will be able to contact those in their area who are in need of assistance.
TikTok has also added a COVID-19 button to its app, so that users can access relevant information about the disease and how various authorities are working to prevent further spread.

In the wake of the current pandemic, and with the aim of removing misinformation, Facebook and TikTok, along with Twitter and Instagram, are hoping these new features will allow users to easily access information that has been confirmed by the relevant authorities.
