The name change comes ahead of the convention’s first-ever winter edition at the end of November.
Summer in the City is to be renamed as Social in the City, founder and organiser Tom Burns has announced.
The two versions of the event – Summer in the City and the recently announced Winter in the City – will now be known as the summer and winter editions respectively.
In a video announcing the news, Tom said: “Back in 2009, when we first started this event, YouTube was a huge focus point of this online community.
“Now, the whole space has changed. We have people on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitch and many other social platforms in addition to YouTube.
“So it just felt natural to evolve the show into something which really shouts what the show is,” he said.
Say Hello to Social in the City! Today we're launching exciting new names and identities for Summer in the City & Winter in the City. We're really excited for the next chapter as SitC! Same events, new refreshed brand, inclusive to all creators #SitC2019 #SitC2020 pic.twitter.com/S5r0vRTjkH

Tom also went on to add that the event will move towards ‘social’ as an overarching brand, saying “we’ve all been calling it SitC anyway”.
The next event, Social in the City: Winter Edition, will take place from Saturday 30 November to Sunday 1 December at the NEC in Birmingham.
Tickets are available now on the Social in the City website.
