Melanie Murphy Announces Engagement to Boyfriend Thomas

Melanie Murphy recently shared the news of her engagement to boyfriend Thomas on her Instagram.

Melanie and Thomas have been together for two years, having first met as teenagers.

In the announcement post Melanie explained how Thomas first proposed over a year ago with an onion ring, as at the time he could not afford an engagement ring while training to be a pilot.

The pair saved up for a ring together and designed “a beautiful target ring with Grace Diamonds”.

It’s official! 🥰🎉 I’m going to marry the best friend I’ve ever had, and I couldn’t be happier 💕 Thomas and I met as teenagers and have been together for two years, during which we spent months in a small room living together, growing in love and realizing how much better life is together than it is apart. He first proposed over a year ago with an onion ring (like in the Simpsons 🙌🏻😂, while we were still long distance) because he had no money, and it was a massive yes from me! We told family and friends we were engaged back then, but Thomas really wanted to buy me a proper ring when he finished pilot training and started earning, so people would know we weren’t joking. He saved up and together, we designed a beautiful target ring with @gracediamonds_ire (I’m in love with it and I’ll share ring details in a separate post! There’s a reason it’s on the ‘wrong’ hand!)…my favourite thing about it is that it’s inscribed with ‘siempre’ which means ‘always’ in Spanish. Spain is where we had to live as Thomas trained and we’ve got such fond memories of the place, and, well, Harry Potter fans understand the relevance of that word ⚡️❤️ I’m 100% marriage > wedding, and we know it’ll take work but we’ve promised to always show up. I never thought I’d experience love like this. Laughter, attraction, respect, loyalty, honesty, vulnerability and a sense of oneness even though we’re both happy and unique as individuals. I’m so ready for this new phase of life and I love that so many of you have been along for the ride via YouTube vlogs! Roll on my 30s, and cheers to Thomas for proposing to me by the sea in Skerries, our hometown, my fave place on earth! 🍾 He had our good friend @simodavo05 convince me he was taking a pic of me in the water for a photography competition…then I turn around and he’s coming at me, tearing up 😂 So big love to Simo for capturing this moment! 💕 #engaged💍

The self-designed engagement ring is “an 18kt white gold diamond and ruby target ring” with small diamonds on each side that were taken from the engagement ring Melanie’s father gave to her mother.

The ring is also inscribed with the Spanish word “Siempre” meaning “always”.

💎 My target engagement ring details! (looks more white when not in direct sunlight ☺️) 💎 A lot of you have commented on how unique and unusual my ring is and have been asking questions about it! I’m going to make a whole YouTube video this month about the process of designing it from scratch with Thomas and @gracediamonds_ire (will touch on everything from reaching out to them, to budgeting to the early designs) but I still want to fill youse in a little here! This is an 18kt white gold diamond and ruby target ring, with small diamonds on either side which were taken from the engagement ring my dad gave to my mam years ago, which he bought in Hong Kong…biha history 😂 We also had designer curved wedding bands made to wrap around this ring (swipe for the 3D images, very inspired by Natalie Portman’s rings!), and then the main diamond from my mam’s old ring became a matching pendant (something old AND something new, in one piece 🥰). I’m over the moon with Gráinne Seoige’s work and I can’t run out of good things to say about @gracediamonds_ire (not sponsored obviously, I just love them) ❤️ Every diamond they sell is certified, conflict free and they even donate a percentage of what we as clients spend on jewellery to feed hungry children (over 1000 a day already), working with UMMA AFRIKA (a registered non-profit) 🙌🏻 So, why did we go with a target design? Once upon a time, target rings were presented as love tokens, with each gemstone concealing a particular meaning (our ring has rubies, which were thought to represent passionate love 😈😂). The first target rings, developed in the Edwardian era, illustrate the popular romantic sentiments of the time – the symbolic heart or bull’s eye shot by Cupid’s arrow, though the look of this ring is definitely Art Deco all the way! Btw, wearing it on my right hand for now as I chew the knuckles on my left hand…but also I have a tattoo on my left wrist so I feel like too much would be going on over that side 😂 I like tradition but not enough to wear this on my weird looking hand 😂 #engagementrings #targetring #engaged💍
