Who doesn’t love a good mashup?
If you’re like us, then you find it extremely difficult to pick your all-time favourite song. There are so many great ones and each is considered your “favourite” for a different reason, so it’s nearly impossible to choose. But why should we have to? With music mashups, all our favourite songs become one to create our ultimate favourite!
In case you couldn’t tell, we’re huge fans of music mashups, and so are our favourite YouTubers! In fact, many of them have tried their hand at creating some themselves, which we’re totally obsessed with, and since we love them so much we’ve decided it was time to dedicate an entire Five of the Best to them. Here they are, our Five of the Best: Music Mashups!
ED SHEERAN – SHAPE OF YOU (COVER) | LucyAndLydia
We’re kicking things off with this mashup of Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, Sia’s Cheap Thrills and Little Mix’s Touch by Lydia and Lucy Connell. This is definitely a video that left us saying OMG!
In case you were unaware, Lucy and Lydia began their YouTube career by uploading musical covers, so this was a nice throwback to their early days on the site, just at a whole new level. This one featured some awesome production and a dedicated music video that is definitely #AestheticsGoals, and we were blown away at how seamlessly the songs were blended into each other – it’s as if they’ve always been the same song, not three individual ones! For that, we have to give major props to Hobbie Stuart and Alexander Teller, who arranged the music. Well done, lads!
Camila Cabello – Havana (SING OFF vs. My Little Sister) | Conor Maynard
Who doesn’t love a good sing-off and challenge? Seeing our faves go head-to-head in the music battle to end all music battles is pretty exhilarating, which is why we’re such huge fans of Conor Maynard‘s SING OFF vs. series. For this article, we’ve decided to feature his battle with sister Anna Maynard, to see who is the best musician in the family. (Don’t worry, Jack Maynard was given his chance at the crown too.)
You’d think Conor would have the advantage in this, given he’s the sibling whose a signed musician, but don’t count out Anna, who has some serious vocals! This sing-off is based around Camila Cabello’s Havana and features lines from some of our favourite tracks from the past two decades or so. We could go on and one about who we think won, but we don’t want to sway anyone else’s opinions. Who do you think was victor?
Crazy Human Psycho Crush – mashup | doddleoddle
Umm, hello, can we talk about how this is pretty much our dream mashup and collaboration? Featuring dodie, Orla Gartland, Tessa Violet and Lauren Aquilina, this video is one about which we had to keep pinching ourselves to make sure it actually happened and not just something we made up.
This video features a mashup of each musician’s songs – dodie’s Human, Lauren’s Psycho, Orla’s I Go Crazy and Tessa’s Crush. Not only are we blown away by the amount of talent featured in one video, but we are totally in awe at how seamlessly these four were able to blend together their music into one amazing song. We’re completely obsessed!
THE CHORUS MASHUP [Stormzy, All Time Low, Drake + MORE] | Cameron Sanderson
Before we start discussing the content of this video, we have to say this is by far the most gorgeous backdrop of any music mashup ever. Period. It seriously makes us want to stop whatever we’re doing and go on a hike through the countryside to take in the amazing scenery. Why didn’t you invite us along, Cameron Sanderson?
In this mashup, Cameron takes an alternative route by only covering the choruses of the songs he’s been jamming to as of late. It’s a pretty smart choice, considering the choruses of songs are normally the catchiest part, and when blended together with Cameron’s voice and some lovely guitar playing, they become even more so! Our favourite part? When he started singing the chorus to Smash Mouth’s All Star. Sure, it might be one of the internet’s most famous memes, but it’s still a damn good song.
Paramore Medley – 22 PARAMORE SONGS!!! | Cover | Christina Rotondo
Is there anyone on the planet who doesn’t love Paramore? We don’t think so! The band is one that helped shape the teenage lives of many who listened to them and have therefore been given the spot as one of the most influential alternative rock bands of all time, according to us. This is why we’re completely and utterly in love with this medley by Christina Rotondo.
This mashup features a lot of old and new favourites, including the classic that is Crush Crush Crush and the danceable Ain’t It Fun. We’re not going to lie, this video took us back to our younger years, to the time of brightly-coloured hairstyles and questionable scene/emo looks that we secretly really miss. Christina, thank you for this trip down memory (and music) lane!
So there you have it…
Our Five of the Best: Music Mashups! We are constantly blown away at how talented our faves are – if only we could have a dose of their abilities… We hope we’ve given you enough music to dance the day away, and that you’ve finally decided on your all-time favourite song. We know we have!
