From sketches and short films, to vlogs and music videos, is there anything Sammy Paul hasn’t made?
The pool of projects to choose from in this creator’s catalogue is extensive and filled to the brim with talent and creativity. Sammy Paul has been sharing his filmmaking talents on YouTube for as long as we can remember and throughout his time of the site we’ve seen his abilities and storytelling skills grow. In fact, we’d consider him a force to be reckoned with. As such, we felt it was time we shared with you all some of the projects that have stood out the most to us.
Here they are, our seven favourite Sammy Paul projects!
Friend Like Me
This is a brilliant short film, featuring Bertie Gilbert and Chris Kendall, that managed to make us both laugh and cry, all within the span of 18 minutes. Written and directed by Sammy, Friend Like Me is the tale of a man whose oldest friend is a layabout genie. We’ll leave it at that, as we don’t want to spoil anything. If you haven’t seen it yet, we can’t recommend it enough.
Filthy Rich
We’re still waiting on Sammy’s debut novel, but maybe that’s for the best if this sketch is anything to go by.
We love a video that can poke fun at the creators themselves and this one featuring PJ Liguori doesn’t fail to give us a giggle each time we watch it. From Sammy’s ridiculous coat to the fact he had to have his assistant read out what we still claim to be one of the most ridiculous statements we’ve ever heard, this sketch is definitely in a league all it’s own, and we highly suggest everyone give it a watch.
Landlord
Okay, we’ve never tested this one our for ourselves, but this video featuring Tim Hautekiet and Matt Hargreaves from way back in 2012 could be used to avoid having to pay one’s rent. Well… Maybe not, but we love it nonetheless. Although, we don’t endorse throwing shoes at random people from your balcony. That might not turn out too well.
His roll in the creation of numerous dodie music videos
Intertwined, In The Middle, Secret For The Mad, Monster – Sammy had a hand to play in the creation of all these dodie music videos and more! (We know, the guy’s been busy.) Each music video sees Sammy delving into his own creativity or helping to bring the vision of another creator to life, such as Dominic Fera or PJ. The videos cover a wide variety of topics and themes, which Sammy explained in a 2017 interview with us:
“[The] big thing that I kind of decided with these music videos – because I’m producing all of them, as well as directing some of them – was that I really wanted them to contrast [with] each other. I think one of my pet hates with certain musicians is when all the music videos end up in the same sort of category, and suddenly the songs feel similar and the music videos feel similar, and they all kind of become this big mush. So I was really keen to make each music video wildly different from one to the next.”
Tom Rosenthal’s Throw The Fear
Filmed in just one take, this joyous music video for Tom Rosenthal‘s song Throw the Fear can’t help but spark a little joy in our lives. While we’ve always been huge fans of Tom’s music to begin with, this video, which features Molly O’Mahony’s stellar dancing, truly manages to bring the track to life.
These two need to collaborate again, ASAP!
SOME LOVELY BOARD GAMES
dodie, Reb Day, Steven Bridges and Tom Ridgewell join Sammy to play a lovely mix of games from Big Potato Games: Clickbait, The Chameleon and Scrawl. In this 21 minute-long extravaganza, the games give dodie a laughing fit and everyone forgets what a blueprint is. (Pressure really does make people forgetful.)
May we never forget big heat, sluts!
Year Long Vlog
Yep, this project is exactly what it sounds like: Sammy filmed a clip every day over the space of a year – August 2016 to August 2017, to be exact – and strung them together to share the message of appreciating what we have and where we are right now, as well as striving toward our goals.
Numerous YouTubers have tried their hand at this style of vlog, and Sammy’s interpretation is definitely one of our all-time favourites. In fact, it makes us want to give it a try for ourselves…
So there you have it…
