Let’s stop and take a moment to appreciate how great a year 2018 has been, music-wise.
We’re being serious. Stop what you’re doing and really reflect on how many great albums and songs were released this year. Not only did we see the queen herself, Ariana Grande, release what we feel is definitely a contender for Album of the Year, but we were also treated to new releases from Drake, Post Malone, Little Mix and so much more! We could honestly go on and on about this, but then we’d be here all day, pretty much ensuring we’d fall behind on our work.
We here at TenEighty HQ love putting on some tunes while writing away in the office, and it appears many of our readers (as well as those throughout the UK) do the same! The official list for the UK’s top trending music videos of 2018 has officially been released and it’s filled with banger after banger after banger. Don’t believe us? Keep on reading!
10. 2002 | Anne-Marie
Kicking things off at Number 10 on our list is Anne-Marie with the music video for her song, 2002. She first broke into the mainstream with her collab with Marshmello and has since been killing it, having released her debut album this past April!
We’re not going to lie, 2002 is a nostalgia-filled trip that had us revisiting our own primary school crushes, and the music video for the song just adds to our love for it. We’re completely OBSESSED with Anne-Marie and we can’t wait to hear what she releases in the future!
9. Taste | Tyga ft. Offset
It comes as no surprise to us that Tyga‘s Taste makes an appearance on this list, simply because it was a song we’ve found ourselves listening to on the reg ever since it was released.
We’re not going to lie, we were kind of sleeping on Tyga before the release of this song, and after its release we found ourselves going through his back catalogue to listen to everything else he has on offer. If you’ve never given him a listen before today, we highly suggest doing the same. You won’t be disappointed.
8. Finesse | Bruno Mars ft. Cardi B
Just as he did in 2017, Bruno Mars is once again making an appearance on the top trending list with a song we’re sure everyone and their mother has heard: Finesse. This single, which features rapper Cardi B, was pretty much inescapable during the early- and mid-parts of 2018, and we still to this day find ourselves singing it whilst running errands or cleaning the flat.
How does Bruno Mars have so much talent, and where do we find some of it for ourselves?
7. Nice For What | Drake
In his first of two appearances on this list, Drake is here with one of his many number one singles, Nice For What. This is definitely one of our favourite songs the Canadian rapper has released, simply because of the message it shares, about women being strong and independent (We LOVE it) – and it appears all those who watched the music video and listened to the track would agree.
Drake’s ability to write classic hits about the day-to-day lives of his listeners and those around him is admirable, and you can bet that’s why he’s on this list more than once.
6. One Kiss | Calvin Harris ft. Dua Lipa
We’re bringing it back to the UK with this track from Calvin Harris and Dupa Lipa, titled One Kiss.
As we mentioned in last year’s article, we consider Dua Lipa to be a national treasure and thus we need to promote her music at all costs. The same can be said about Calvin Harris, who, with his DJ skills, is showing everyone just what the UK music scene has to offer. With the coming together of these two, One Kiss was pretty much guaranteed to be a hit!
5. Solo | Clean Bandit ft. Demi Lovato
You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who isn’t a fan of Clean Bandit. The group from Cambridge have consistently managed to release hit after hit after hit, showing everyone they have what it takes to make it longterm in the music industry. We also believe you’ll find it difficult to name someone who isn’t completely blown away by Demi Lovato‘s vocal range and talent. The girl has some serious pipes, and how she manages to hit those high notes, we’ll never understand.
Put both together and you have a recipe for success!
4. These Days | Rudimental ft. Jess Glynne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen
Rudimental, Dan Caplen, Jess Glynne and Macklemore all featured on one song? YES, PLEASE.
This single was released at the beginning of 2018 and introduced us to one of our favourite albums of the year. The way each musician’s voice plays on the others featured is beautiful, and we can’t get over how great it all sounds. It’s such a touching and impactful song that you’ll find it difficult to not get emotional while listening to it.
3. no tears left to cry | Ariana Grande
We’re pretty sure the world stopped the day Ariana Grande released no tears left to cry. The lead single off of her album sweetener, the song took over airwaves and left fans shook! It’s catchy pop sound paired with even catchier lyrics were pretty much a recipe for success and we don’t think she could have chosen a better song to return with.
Also, can we take a minute to talk about the music video? It’s just SO cool! Not only does Ariana look absolutely gorgeous throughout with the stunning dresses and her signature ponytail, but the effects used to make it left us absolutely mesmerised! She really is the current Queen of Pop Music!
2. God’s Plan | Drake
Does it come as any surprise that Drake’s God’s Plan is Number Two on this list? The single was EVERYWHERE this year, so much so that it was pretty much impossible to escape it.
The music video for the single made headlines worldwide, as Drake donated the money set aside for its creation to residents throughout Miami. The video shows Drake engaging in multiple acts of charity, not only showing how good of a guy he is, but also inspiring both fans and viewers to take some time out of their days to help out those less fortunate.
1. Girls Like You | Maroon 5 ft. Cardi B
Coming it at Number One on the UK’s top trending list is… Drumroll, please… Maroon 5 and Cardi B, with their single, Girls Like You.
Girls Like You is the definition of an ear worm. The song appeared constantly on the radio and managed to seep its way into the heads of everyone who heard it. Say what you want about Maroon 5 (we know Adam Levine’s voice isn’t for everyone), the band know how to make catchy music, and this single shows that!
But wait, there’s more…
We aren’t stopping there! We also managed to get our hands on the global list for the top trending music videos of 2018, and let’s just say it’s filled with loads more bangers.
