October is Black History Month here in the UK.
There are a ton of budding and established Black-British creators who are making names for themselves with their awesome content in the UK YouTube community. Their content ranges from beauty and fashion to gaming and travel vlogs, and we think they deserve some attention.
You might know some of those featured below, some might be completely new, but we can guarantee by the end of this list your sub box will be filled with a whole host of new videos. Here are our 10 picks for creators you have to check out this Black History Month!
TATI
Kicking off our list is Tati Kapaya, whose channel is pretty much going to become your new favourite the minute you start watching her videos. Not limited to one genre of video, Tati’s channel features something for everyone.
Interested in reaction videos and GRWMs? There’s a few. Want to watch the odd daily vlog, specifically one about K-pop band BTS? That’s one of her most recent uploads! Can’t get enough of Q&A videos? You can check that off the list. Tati has so much to offer to her audience and you’ll leave her videos feeling like you have a new best friend!
Some of our all-time favourite videos on her channel are the ones shot in a short film-esque style, like the one we’ve shared above. The montage of scenes, paired with music and some killer editing techniques make them a joy to watch, and they always leave us with an itch to create!
Miss Varz
Anyone who’s visited YouTube knows just how large the education genre is. It’s filled to the brim with creators offering tips on how to study, take notes and write essays. It’s a wealth of knowledge we think everyone in school should be taking advantage of. A creator we think you should be checking out? Varaidzo Kativhu, better known as Miss Varz.
Varaidzo is currently attending Oxford University, so you know she’s got some pretty good study techniques. Thankfully, she’s willing to share her tips with viewers to make us all better learners. She does this through her Uni Vlogs series, which shows what university life is really like, and it’s just one of many edu-series on her channel. When not talking about all things school-related, she can be found uploading videos geared at empowering her viewers and urging them to reach for the stars!
Jemel One Five
Football fans rejoice, because we’ve found the PERFECT channel for you! Jemel Akeem is here to satiate your love for all things football, both during the Premiere League season and after. (That’s a whole lot of football.)
Jemel’s channel features a whole host of football-related videos, a lot of which fall under his crazy impressive challenge videos. Our favourites? The triple threat crossbar challenge and the no bounce football challenge. (Mainly because we’d fail at doing them ourselves.) As well, he hosts a regular series called Know Your Club, where he asks fellow YouTubers and football fans questions about their favourite football club. Through 10 multiple choice questions, he’s able to decide if they’re a fake fan or if they’re the ultimate die hard. It’s pretty entertaining (and informative) to watch.
Mimi Missfit
We don’t know about you, but we think it’s about time we had a beauty vlogger on this list, and who better than the one and only Mimi Missfit?
Fans of all things fashion and beauty will find a home in Mimi’s channel. The majority of her uploads include haul videos, which leave us itching to swap out our wardrobes; makeup tutorials and tests, which always ensure we look on fleek; and DIY videos, which lit our creative sparks! Some of our highlights include the time she dyed her hair purple and pink (it was a LOOK!) and when she introduced us to her family. As well, she’s one of the vloggers who participates in Vlogmas each year, which is our favourite time of year. Here’s hoping she picks up the vlogging camera again this December!
Lydia Dinga
Looking for a YouTuber to dish out some much needed advice? Look no further than your self-appointed big sister, Lydia Dinga, whose channel is a dream for anyone looking for someone new to subscribe to. Whether you’re in the mood for weekly vlogs, honest opinions, haul videos or some much needed laughs, Lydia has got your back, and she’s got something on her channel for everyone.
Our favourite videos on Lydia’s change are without a doubt her travel vlogs. Not only is the editing superb, but the shots she gets make us want to quit our day jobs, hop on a plane and travel the world! The wanderlust is real and we can guarantee you’ll be feeling it too the minute you watch her videos.
Annie Drea
The one thought we have whenever we visit Annie Drea‘s channel is, “Damn, does this girl have a good fashion sense!” Seriously, have you seen her channel? There’s video after video of her rocking various outfits for any occasion and she more often than not leaves us wishing we could look that good!
Annie’s channel features many other videos that fall under the beauty and fashion genres, including hauls, GRWMs and beauty tutorials, including an awesome fall look we’re sure many have been rocking this season. But, above all, what we love most about her channel is the confidence she radiates. It’s infectious and we can guarantee it’s inspired many a viewer. (We know it’s inspired us!)
DTG
Incredible challenge videos, hilarious guest appearances, insane pranks – is there anything Deji Araoye hasn’t filmed? One look through his channel will leave you wondering how the man hasn’t burnt out yet. The hustle is real and we’re respecting it!
If you’re in need of a good laugh, then we highly recommend visiting Deji’s channel. It’s pretty much a guarantee you’ll be leaving with a huge smile on your face. Out of his many videos, our personal favourites are those within his London Is Stupid series, which seriously make us question how some people have managed to go through life without seriously hurting themselves. Along with those, there’s his football challenges, which, just like Jemel, leave us feeling pretty inadequate when it comes to our sporting abilities…
Derin Adetosoye
You know we couldn’t stop at just one edu-Tuber on our list. It’s one of our favourite genres on YouTube, so we had to spotlight another awesome creator within it: Derin Adetosoye.
Derin is here to ensure her viewers get the most out of their university experience, while also getting good grades. From her Exam Tips That Will (Literally) Save Your Life! video to Study & Organization Tips EVERY University Student Needs to Hear, there’s no reason to not be getting straight As after visiting her channel. When she’s not preparing us for school life, Derin can be found sharing her travel adventures and beauty tips. We literally don’t know what we did to deserve her, but we’re lucky she’s in our lives!
Raven Navera
Raven Navera is running the beauty and fashion channel of our dreams! From gorgeous makeup looks (just look at the stunning eyeshadow in the video posted above) to tips on how to achieve the best of hair styles, she’s someone whose channel you’ll definitely be revisiting time and time again.
Some of our all-time favourite videos on Raven’s channel are those she films with her boyfriend. The two of them are so cute and their videos together always leave us with goofy grins on our faces. Seriously, what do we have to do to get a relationship like theirs? Our DMs are currently open for those of you willing to offer us some advice.
Niko Omilana
Closing out our list is the King of Pranks himself. You’ve probably heard of him. Yep, that’s right, we’re talking about the one and only Nikolas Omilana.
Most casual viewers will know Nik for his popular Fake Employee prank series, but his channel is filled with so much more hilarious content. While there are his highly successful prank videos, he’s also filmed numerous story time videos and parodies, all made in the hopes of entertaining his viewers. Our personal favourites are those under his Type Of series, including his TYPES OF HIGH SCHOOL KIDS (Year 7 Edition) video. We always leave his channel wishing we were as funny as him.
So there you have it…
10 creators we think you should check out this Black History Month! By subscribing to those we mentioned above, we can guarantee you’ll be treated to tons of new and exciting content!
