The book Fuck Yeah, Video Games: The Life and Extra Lives of a Professional Nerd reached a complete crowdfunding campaign within an hour of going live.
Focusing on Dan’s interest of video games, he says in the announcement video that, “it’s a comedy book about my love and joy for video games. It’s a really positive like upbeat ‘video games a fucking brilliant’ kind of book crammed with as many jokes as possible.
Each chapter focuses on a different game and I delve into them into wildly different ways for each one and it’s strange and a bit mad, and a bit silly, and very whimsical and I’ve had a fucking blast writing it but also Rebecca did all the art for it”
The book is being published through Unbound, a crowdfunding book publisher, and broke the crowdfunding record with a complete campaign funded in 42 minutes.
In case you hadn't heard, @DanNerdCubed and @Mr_Rebecca absolutely smashed our crowdfunding record today, hitting 100% in just 42 minutes.

Speaking to TenEighty, Dan tells his thoughts on the reception to the book’s campaign, and what the plans for the exceeded target are, “It’s been surprising to say the least! I honestly had no idea we’d get such overwhelming support from everyone. It’s brilliant and a little bit terrifying.
The plan at 1000% is the same as 100%, write the best book I can and get it directly into the hands of the people who want it. The bonus side of 1000% is that it’s going to let me fund future, non-book projects that I’ve got in the works!”
Having been writing the book for over a year, Dan discusses the challenges he faced while writing, and how he overcame them, “Just getting the time to sit down and write the thing while also balancing side projects, four YouTube channels, a podcast and live streams. I’d say that over half the book has been written in bed between 3-4am. The witching hour is my muse apparently.”
Continuing, Dan states about the struggles of writing comedy, as opposed to his visual edited style, “It’s a totally different language. I’ve had to shed almost all my script writing instincts and remember that even if I put something in italics people with cameras can’t set my jokes up for me. I’ve found that to make the simplest visual joke work you have to wildly expand on it. A Panda Sneezes may work for a YouTube video, but that’s gonna take a paragraph and at least one rude word to get right on paper.”

Containing illustrations by Rebecca Maughan, the book also includes a written addition by Stuart Ashens, who Dan reveals to be the inspiration for the book, “He got me to write a chapter for his book, Attack of the Flickering Skeletons, and I got hooked on book writing. I like a challenge and is there any challenge greater than writing a book? Yes, I suppose. Everest is up there. Beating Bloodborne using a Sega Activator? Sure. Eating a donut without licking your lips!?”
The campaign is still running through Unbound with an expected finish date of 2 October with perks prices ranging from £5 to £1,500.
