The site’s charts will be a direct competition to others such as Billboard Charts and the Official Charts Company.
The YouTube Music Twitter announced the launch of their own brand new music charts last week.
The new charts include four sections:
- Trending – updated numerous times throughout the day to give a real-time view of the most popular music on the platform.
- Top Songs – updated weekly, every Sunday, and shows the most played songs on YouTube (calculated by views on all official versions of the song in user-generated content, official music videos, and lyric videos).
- Top Artists – updated weekly, highlighting the most popular artists based on their entire discography’s views.
- Top Music Videos – updated weekly, highlighting the most popular music videos being viewed.
The charts are tracked on both a global and local level. It currently has a total of 44 destinations that can be tracked including the UK and the US.
The company stated: “With more than 1.8 billion global monthly users, YouTube charts is the new go-to destination to see what’s popular, what’s rising and trending both locally and globally on YouTube.
“The new charts are based purely on the number of views and are a reflection of the success achieved by artists on the world’s most expansive music platform.”
