YouTube and podcasts are two of the hottest media fields right now, so why not get you a creator who can do both?
Podcasts can almost be considered the new YouTube. It’s easy to start one, the creative possibilities are endless, and with their rapid rise to the mainstream it seems like everyone’s talking about them. However, we say “almost” because podcasts aren’t replacing YouTube. In fact, more and more YouTubers are expanding to podcasts as a new medium to explore alongside their channels. From exclusive interviews to critical advice, here are a few of our favourites.
Banging Book Club
This isn’t your mum’s book club… Actually, maybe it is.
Banging Book Club is a sharp and humourous show that talks about issues important to people of all ages. Each month, Hannah Witton, Leena Normington, and Lucy Moon take on a different book about sex, gender, and relationships. From novels to self-help books to Fifty Shades of Grey, every book is examined with insightful commentary from these three friends. In between book analyses, Banging Book Club releases minisodes featuring guest interviews and film reviews.
Niki and Sammy’s Peachy Podcast
Niki and Sammy Albon’s Peachy Podcast, which recently launched on Radio 1, is centered on music news and internet trends, but you never know what to expect on this BBC show. From Steve Aoki to Mark Ferris, the podcast is full of interesting guests and fascinating behind-the-scenes titbits.
Come for the exclusive stories, stay for the… ASMR guessing game? This really does have it all!
Make Out With Him
Make Out With Him may be between seasons right now, but it’s ongoing in our hearts. Named after the lighthearted advice hosts Lex Croucher and Rosianna Halse Rojas would give each other, Make Out With Him is an advice podcast about friendship, crushes, and dating.
Pointed title aside, they’re here to “give you bad advice whether you want to make out with him, her, them, everybody, or nobody”.
Hello Internet
Educational YouTubers CGP Grey and Brady Haran have been hosting the wide-ranging podcast Hello Internet since 2014. Alongside frequent discussions about their recent YouTube projects and changes to the platform, the two often dive into conversations about technology, society, flags, plane crashes, and more. Their opposing and perfectly matched personalities make for humour and interesting debates in every episode.
Lower Your Expectations
We might be unable to follow the instructions in the name of this podcast! On Lower Your Expectations, Marcus Butler and Matt Viney chat about their lives and opinions on YouTube issues, from the perspective of someone with a large YouTube following and a behind-the-scenes employee of said creator’s popular channel. They also sometimes feature YouTuber guests, like Joe Sugg and Jim Chapman, to discuss their personal journeys and thoughts on the state of the industry.
Happy Mum, Happy Baby
Writer, vlogger, and mum extraordinaire Giovanna Fletcher hosts Happy Mum, Happy Baby, a continuation of the topics first discussed in her book of the same name. She has a different guest on each week to talk about the ups and downs of parenthood and why we need to stop comparing ourselves to each other. While every episode has been insightful, we have to highlight the Series One finale with her husband, Tom Fletcher – they are too adorable for words!
