AmeliaAce offers a beginners’ guide to asexuality.
As her name suggests, Amelia is asexual and primarily uploads videos about the asexual spectrum. In this video, she goes back to basics, listing the top ten things you need to know about asexuality.
The knowledge you will gain from this very informative video will help you understand this underrepresented and often misunderstood identity. Of course, you can still do your own research to find out even more about asexuality, as Amelia says in the video.
Amelia explains that being asexual and aromantic are different things: being aromatic means that you do not experience romantic attraction, while being asexual means that you do not experience sexual attraction. People can identify as one or the other or both, but the two are not the same.
She says that “asexuality is a spectrum”, which means that different asexual people can have different experiences and personal definitions of asexuality.
“It’s not about sexual action, it’s about sexual attraction,” Amelia adds, explaining that asexuality is not the same thing as being heterosexual or “waiting until marriage”.
She also says, “Someone telling you they are asexual, demisexual, or grey-asexual is not an invitation to start a debate on whether or not those orientations are real”, sticking up for asexuals who have had more than their fair share of ignorant comments about their sexuality.
