Silvie Ruscombe-King offers a charming and funny foray into the world of Pretentious Monthly Scrapbooks.
“January’s a weird month for me,” Silvie asserts at the beginning of the video, summing up a common feeling about the month (it can’t just be us that felt like January lasted forever, right?).
By balancing fitting music and reflective moments with shots of her enjoying time with friends, she manages to capture the ups and downs of her life at the start of 2018 beautifully.
The whole video has an amazingly warm feel, from the shots of her cats and her book recommendations to her very relatable feelings about being hungover.
She’s clear about not wanting her new series to be simply a highlights reel, however, mentioning that “it looks like I had the most amazing time with lots of laughter. And while that’s true, I also had a lot of not-so-good days that I didn’t film.
“It’s a terrible month for me to start a new series,” she jokes at the beginning of the video, after chatting about her dislike for January. After watching it a few times, we’ve decided that we definitely disagree.
Despite January not being Silvie’s favourite month, Something New had us smiling throughout. It’s a unique take on a tried and tested format and captures some beautiful moments as well as a lot of laughs.
Experimenting with different styles of filming and editing, she has definitely brought something new (see what we did there?) to the TenEighty subscriptions feed this month. We’re already excited for February!
