Amelle Rose has officially released her debut EP, titled Family Tree.
The singer/songwriter announced to fans on December 15 that the tracks were available for preorder, with the full EP going live today (January 20).
Amelle‘s release is themed around mental health issues, and her own battle with depression helped guide its content.
“I really liked the idea of having a themed EP,” she tells TenEighty, “and realised I had quite a bunch of songs based around mental health issues.”
Describing the EP as “honest, fragile, and rocky”, Amelle reveals that her family’s support during her recovery process was vital – and thanks her family with references to them in her music, most specifically Out of the Woods and Awake.
“Out of the Woods, which is a song about battling depression – there’s a line in which I’m apologising to my mother because I know how hard it was for her to deal with everything that happened,” she says. “Awake is probably the song that talks the most about my family where I’m mentioning several people and the impact they had on me. Going back onto my mental health issues, because of how involved they were then, it was just natural for me to mention them at some point during the songs.”
Family Tree can be purchased here.
