January is a month for making things happen, so let’s do it!
Okay, bear with us. There are some little corners of YouTube that shouldn’t fascinate us, but they do. One of these is cleaning and tidying videos. There’s just something so relaxing about watching someone make a room all nice and organised. (So satisfying.) We think it’s because we trick our brains into thinking we’re the ones doing all the cleaning and tidying – basically, productivity by osmosis! Nothing makes the January blues go away faster than a kick to procrastination’s butt.
Join us in getting some house goals inspo and keeping up your 2018 resolution for a cleaner and tidier house with our Five of the Best: Clean-Up Videos.
How to: Clean Your Room to Clean Your Soul | KonMari | Connie Glynn
Connie Glynn and friend Will Priest tackle tidying her bedroom using the KonMari method, from The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying. The method describes itself as “gathering together all of one’s belongings, one category at a time, and then keeping only those things that ‘spark joy’ and choosing a place for everything from then on”. This means that, as well as tidying your room or belongings, you’re cleaning your mind, and by the end you (hopefully) feel super relaxed.
In the video, they split the tidying into three categories: clothes, paper, and everything else, then proceed to do a lovely speed-run of all the tidying. Aside from this being a wonderful excuse to look at all of Connie’s cute clothes, it’s so soothing to see everything get put away. Your room looks wonderful, Connie!
BRITISH BOY CLEANS MIRROR | Jimmy0010
Jimmy Hill is always on the latest internet trends, and when British YouTubers Try American Candy came along, he put his own original spin on it. In this weirdly satisfying video, Jimmy cleans his bathroom mirror in three steps. Of course, he isn’t a stranger to cleaning videos. Two of our favourite videos of his are his review of the Magic Mop and the time he showed us how he loads the dishwasher – groundbreaking stuff.
Seeing the mirror go from dirty and marked to streak-free is just the motivation we needed to give our bathroom mirror a clean – we know, we know, it needs doing…
Tidying Up And Cats 🐱🐱🐱🎵 | Vidmas #22 | Beckie Jane Brown
The lovely Rebecca Brown is an old hand at clean-up videos and to us her timelapses are super satisfying. She tidies her bedroom by sorting out her clothes, her bed, and her bathroom all in one swiftly-edited motion. Our favourite thing about the video is spotting all her cats running about and loving the new beds she makes up for them – so cute!
Her tidying videos have also verged into decluttering videos, especially since she opened up about her hoarding. It’s really great to see someone be so open about mental health issues and Beckie has once again stepped up to the mark!
I Still Have Lots Of Stuff – VEDO 5 | Daniel J. Layton
Daniel J. Layton takes us along for a video of himself tidying his closet. He talks about the usual issues of having too much stuff and too small a room (we can relate!) and makes us wonder what actually is dry cleaning? Dan tells us about the different vibes each of the rooms in the flat has and how bedrooms end up reflecting your personality. We can definitely tell that from his Harry Potter poster and Funko Pops!
Moving house is certainly a good way to have a wardrobe clearout, but maybe we should do one anyway… Bring on the bin bags!
The Most Satisfying Speed Clean Of My House! 😍 | Gabriella Lindley
Gabriella Lindley‘s vlogs are always great, but this one has a fantastic tidy-up. Her chatty tidying approach is totally captivating, and the time-lapse near the end is our fave! There’s just nothing more satisfying than seeing her clean her counters and fill the dishwasher. Gabby is the only person that could make tidying up not sound boring!
Her desk clean up makes us think we should really get to ours. There are enough leftover snacks on it to sustain a small nation!
So there you have it…
