YouTube has addressed the controversy around Logan Paul’s recent video in an “open letter to the community” shared on Twitter.
In a series of tweets, YouTube responded to the complaints about, and community response to, a video Logan Paul uploaded on 2 January 2018 in which he filmed a dead body.
Like many others, we were upset by the video that was shared last week.

“Many of you have been frustrated with our lack of communication recently,” the tweet thread began. “You’re right to be. You deserve to know what’s going on.
“Suicide is not a joke, nor should it ever be a driving force for views. As Anna Akana put it perfectly: ‘That body was a person someone loved. You do not walk into a suicide forest with a camera and claim mental health awareness.’
“We expect more of the creators who build their community on @YouTube, as we’re sure you do too. The channel violated our community guidelines, we acted accordingly, and we are looking at further consequences.”

Many viewers had previously commented about the platform being too slow to act on the situation, which YouTube addressed by saying: “It’s taken us a long time to respond, but we’ve been listening to everything you’ve been saying. We know that the actions of one creator can affect the entire community, so we’ll have more to share soon on steps we’re taking to ensure a video like this is never circulated again.”

Response to the letter has been mixed, with many in the community feeling that YouTube should have done more about the situation:
.@YouTube What does "acted accordingly" mean exactly? You didn't take down the video. (Logan did.) You didn't age restrict it. You left it at "#1 ON TRENDING".
How is that acting "accordingly", please? https://t.co/5oGgFdLkKV

Thank you for finally acknowledging this. It’s not a perfect response, but it feels like you are at least still willing to listen to our concerns and we aren’t throwing our anger into a void.

Dear @Youtube,
Are you lying or are you that detached from reality? pic.twitter.com/aVU5jmYQO9
