It’s been a pretty good week for pop culture.
Polina Bogusevich won this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, BBC Music announced the longlist for 2018, and The Great British Bake Off revealed the lineup for its Christmas episodes and we couldn’t be more excited! Let’s keep this momentum going with yours and our favourite article of the week: the Weekly Round-Up.
Let’s talk… YOUTUBE-MONEY, ZOELLA & PEOPLE CHANGING | Caspar
There has been so much discussion and controversy on and off YouTube recently about money, YouTube changing, and YouTubers exploiting their audiences, and Caspar Lee has chimed in on the conversation.
It’s nice to see a creator speak honestly about the situation from their own point of view, a side of the conversation that people won’t necessarily understand unless they’re experiencing it. Caspar speaks in a dignified manner that causes the audience to think about perspective, and he offers up some important points.
i only made CHRISSY TEIGEN recipes for a day | Raphael Gomes
We’re going to warn you right now: don’t watch this video if you’re hungry because it’s going to make your mouth water uncontrollably.
This week, Raphael Gomes cooks meals from Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook, Cravings. If you were looking for a cookbook to give you inspiration for your next meal or if you were starting to think about what to get your chef friend for Christmas, this seems to be one full of magical recipes.
Dear YouTube, | Doug Armstrong
YouTube hasn’t been a friend to many creators this year. So many of our faves have commented on demonetisation, the algorithm messing with views, filter and guideline changes, and the drama surrounding advertisers leaving YouTube.
While most have taken to Twitter or uploaded chat-style videos to share their views on the topic, Doug Armstrong added his voice to the conversation in the medium he does best: song.
Stop spreading terror | Lex Croucher
If you only watch one video this week, we are on our knees begging you, for the love of all that is good, make it this video by Lex Croucher. Please. *looks at you with puppy eyes*
We’ve all woken up to those BBC notifications on our phone of a terror attack happening somewhere, leaving us sad at the state of the world. When it’s in London, though, our hearts sink because of how close to home it is. A few days ago, we experienced that feeling in regards to the confusing situation that happened at Oxford Circus.
Not to put a huge amount of pressure on her, but in our opinion, Lex’s video is one of the most important messages the world needs to hear right now.
WORTH THE HYPE?? GIGI HADID X MAYBELLINE | Samantha Maria
Earlier this month, the beautiful Gigi Hadid released a makeup line in partnership with Maybelline New York. The collection’s launch happened at Superdrug and we are unbelievably jealous of Samantha Maria, who was able to attend the event.
Thankfully, for those of us not at the event, Samantha is testing out the products and letting us know what is worth our money. What’s nice about this video is that it doesn’t feel like a product review – it feels more like a chatty GRWM video.
Want more? Why didn’t you ask?!
We are obsessed with Diary of a Tortured Artist (which we spoke to Sammy Paul about earlier this week!), and we aren’t afraid to admit that about 20k of its 26k views are from us.
The Mandeville Sisters demonstrate what happens every time we put our headphones in.
Niki and Sammy Albon hit the streets of London to see what Londoners think about YouTubers. Do you share the same views as these Londoners?
Yasmine Wilde spent her birthday in Paris. Her vlog documenting what she was up to warms our hearts and makes us miss the romantic City of Light.
