From Sean “Jack” McLoughlin to Riyadh Khalaf, the country has been home to many of our fave creators. You know who else is on that list? Melanie Murphy.

Melanie has been making videos on YouTube since 2013, sharing with her hundreds of thousands of subscribers her thoughts on fashion, sexuality, and much more. With her positive attitude and quirky personality, she’s steadily made a name for herself, and her growth shows no sign of stopping.

It’ll come as no surprise that we here at TenEighty are massive fans of Melanie, having avidly watched her videos for years. In fact, we love her so much that we felt it was time to dedicate an entire article to her. So, without further ado, here are nine reasons why we love Melanie Murphy!

PMS Party

One of the newer series on Melanie’s channel is PMS Party. Completely dedicated to periods and PMS, the series features Melanie talking about her monthly cravings, answering questions from viewers, and having candid chats about how her period affects her. Given that periods are still seen as taboo by society, we’re glad to see Melanie opening up the discussion. They’re a natural bodily process, so why should we be ashamed of them?

Her body positivity

Throughout her time on YouTube, Melanie has been very open about her struggles with eating disorders and body dysmorphia. Because of her experiences, she’s also been very proactive when it comes to body positivity. She’s made many videos encouraging viewers to love their bodies and has even offered up many a tip on how to be more confident in your own skin. She’s inspiring viewers to love who they are, and we can’t get enough!

She’s open about her sexuality

YouTube has become a valuable resource for those exploring their sexuality, with coming out videos, discussions of sexuality, and much more. One creator contributing to this conversation is Melanie. Through many videos on her channel (some featuring the likes of Riyadh and her sister Jessica Brennan), Melanie has not only shared about her sexuality, but made her channel a safe space for those who need it.

She isn’t afraid to talk about sex

If there’s one thing we love the most about Melanie, it’s that she’s so sex positive. As we mentioned in a recent Five of the Best, sex is still seen as a taboo subject, so to see her talking about it so openly is encouraging. With society and school failing to give people a thorough education on sexual health, people need somewhere to turn, and we’re glad they have YouTubers like Melanie giving them the lowdown on what they need to know.

She’s a positive thinker

One thing we’ve learnt from watching Melanie all these years is that she’s a positive thinker. She’s always looking on the bright side of things, and we love her for it. With so much negativity floating around as of late, we’re glad to see people like Melanie looking at the silver linings life has to offer.

She’s big into mental health awareness

As we previously mentioned, Melanie has been very open about her experiences with mental health. Whether it be a video on how she recovered from her eating disorders or informing viewers on the warning signs to look for when they suspect someone of suffering from one, she is constantly offering advice from personal experience, and showing viewers there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Mental illness might feel like a constant cycle of ups and downs, but Melanie is proof that things get better with a little help and optimism.

She’s open with her audience

Melanie has an incredibly close bond with her audience, and part of that has to do with the fact she’s always been very open with them. (Have we mentioned that enough in this article?) There are few YouTubers who will share all that Melanie does, and that’s resulted in one of the most trusting and caring communities around.

No subject is off-limits

When it comes to Melanie, no topic is off-limits. On her channel, you’ll not only see her speaking about sex, sexuality, fashion, and makeup, you’ll also see her tackling such issues as abortion. This girl’s got a lot of opinions and she isn’t afraid to share them!

Her Teenage VS Twentysomething series

Another series we’ve fallen in love with is Melanie’s Teenage VS Twentysomething. Along with her sister, Melanie discusses a variety of topics, from alcohol to makeup. It’s always interesting seeing how their opinions differ (and how similar they are!) and we always get excited when we see it pop up in our sub boxes.

Nine reasons why we’re totally obsessed with Melanie Murphy! There’s no-one else like her YouTube, and we hope she never stops making videos. She’s like our internet big sister, and we don’t know what we’d do if we couldn’t watch her videos every week!
