BBC Three’s new drama Overshadowed is about a fictional Irish vlogger, played by Michelle Fox, and her struggles with anorexia.
The series is made up of eight ten-minute episodes, all of which are presented as vlogs filmed by schoolgirl Imogen. She is committed to filming every aspect of her life but shares more than intended.
Throughout the series, the audience sees Imogen start to display signs of anorexia, and discovers how the disease affects her life. The vlogs are very blunt, with Imogen sharing exactly how she feels and what is happening in her life.

In the series, anorexia is personified as a character named Anna, played by co-writer Eva O’Connor, that only Imogen can see. The viewers see this character constantly following Imogen and pushing her to eat less and exercise more.
“By showing the eating disorder as a separate entity, you remove the control, you can see the person trying, but there’s this outside control overshadowing them. It’s not this person’s fault, they’re not doing it in a malicious way,” Michelle Fox told BBC News.
All eight episodes of Overshadowed are available now on BBC iPlayer.
