Have you ever wondered how the big names in YouTube are able to do it so effortlessly?
In her usual comedic style, Ami Yamato opens her latest video awkwardly vlogging on the streets of central London, before promptly giving up and calling Tom ‘TomSka’ Ridgewell, asking him for some tips on how she can improve.
As an animated vlogger, Ami has transformed the shy, awkward vlog into its own art form. Her deadpan, sarcastic humour is demonstrated in vlogs such as How I Make My Videos and What I Really Look Like.
This video is no different. It’s a satirical look at the current YouTube culture of vlogging a designer life – picking out the highs and not sharing any of the boring parts.
Tom, to his credit, gives some pretty good advice. “My main problem,” Ami says into her phone, “is that my life is too boring.”
Tom replies that he’s sure that isn’t the case; you can turn anything into a vlog. You just have to talk about what you are going to do for the day, and if that’s still too boring, then just make something up! “Who’s going to question it?” he remarks.
Even after Tom has shared his infinite vlogging wisdom, Ami still isn’t sure about it all. “People are going to know this isn’t really my life!”
“Okay, you know what?” Tom replies. “It really doesn’t matter what you talk about, what’s important is you get the views. Here’s what you do.” He lowers his voice conspiratorially: “You get a big, popular, influential YouTuber to be a part of the video, put their name in the title, and boom – instant hit. Know anyone like thaaaat?”
Ami purses her lips at this, thinking for a moment. “Hmmm… No, but I’ll think of someone. Thanks, Tom!”
Well, the secret’s out now!
