Maddie Moate is among the creators featuring in exclusive playlists as part of the #TodayILearned campaign.
YouTube Kids has started its annual #TodayILearned campaign, a selection of curated playlists filled with educational videos in time for the new school year. Running throughout the month of September, videos aimed at children from CBeebies presenter Maddie Moate, DisneyXDUK, BBC Newsround, Lonely Planet, and others will be added to a selection of featured #TodayILearned playlists.
Featured on the Explore tab in the YouTube Kids application, each playlist covers a different educational topic. The BBC’s Newsround playlist, for example, is intended to improve literacy skills of young children, while Aardman’s playlist promotes creative skills.
CBeebies presenter Maddie Moate introduces several playlists about science and nature. Each playlist features her favourite educational videos which she claims to inspire her to “get curious”.
The Get Exploring playlist features videos about the workings of the world, and her Bee Curious About the Environment playlist has a stronger emphasis on nature. She introduces the premise of the playlist: “My friends on the YouTube Kids app just got in touch and asked, ‘Maddie, what are you looking forward to learning about this month?’ And of course, I had to say bees!” Maddie’s bee-related videos, including How do Bees make Honey? and How to Harvest Honey, are featured among other nature videos from Lonely Planet among others.
Another notable playlist is Arts and Crafts with Aardman, created by the studio behind Shaun the Sheep and Wallace and Gromit to inspire the development of creative skills such as storytelling, drawing, and crafts.
YouTube Kids is an application for mobile telephones and tablets. The iOS app can be downloaded here, and the Android app here.
