At Summer in the City 2017, YouTube shared some of the funky new features it’s introduced over the past year!
YouTube is a fab website (we think we can all agree) and it’s always announcing new and exciting features that creators both big and small can take advantage of. Read on to find out what YouTube’s representatives highlighted at Summer in the City!
YouTube’s makeover
In case you haven’t noticed already, YouTube is now rocking a new, swish look, which looks simpler and cleaner. We’re a fan – are you?
Beta live chat moderation
YouTube always has a load of updates in the works and sometimes they send out sneak peeks to test out versions of things to come. This time, the site is beta-testing a way for creators to moderate the comments in live chat. This way, they can pick trusted subscribers to moderate the chat and remove any inappropriate comments. Pretty cool stuff.
Merchandising
YouTube is currently testing out a way for creators to advertise their merch under their videos. Their thoughts are, if brands can advertise on YouTubers’ videos, then the creators themselves should be able to promote their own merch! Smart thinking, YouTube – a little bit of self-promo never hurt anyone.
Video previews
YouTube has recently introduced a cool new feature to their website. Now, if you move your cursor over a video thumbnail, it will play a three-second preview of the video. YouTube hopes that this will eventually combat clickbait. An excellent strategy, we think.
The YouTube Space in London
The YouTube Space at King’s Cross in London is the place to be for creators. If you have over 1,000 subscribers, the space is available to use. It includes loads of facilities to help creators make top-notch content, all for free! YouTube is also introducing a programme where, if you have over 100,000 subs, you can get your very own consultant.
