It’s time once again to hang up our capes and thigh-high vinyl boots – another MCM has come and gone.
Tragic, we know. Yesterday we were taking selfies with Lara Croft and frolicking in a sea of Nintendo characters, and today we’re contemplating whether or not to eat our porridge straight from the pot to avoid getting another bowl dirty. We never saw Wonder Woman do the washing up, so really we’re just one step closer to being her, right?
Fortunately, by the grace of their own charity, some masked do-gooders have gathered the best YouTube videos of the week and compiled them for your viewing pleasure. Out of sheer humility, they have opted to remain anonymous, though we received an insider tip that their name begins with “T” and ends with “enEighty”. Quite the conundrum…
LIAM PAYNE LEARNS TO SING | Caspar Lee
What happens when you manage to con one of the world’s biggest stars into thinking you’re a renowned vocal coach? According to Caspar Lee, wild hand gestures, some boyband bashing, and lots of screaming. Oh, and a pretty cool interview, too!
After putting Liam Payne through the wringer with some truly challenging vocal exercises (we know – we tried them), Caspar Lee sits down with the singer to chat about writing with Ed Sheeran, visiting South Africa, and recording solo. With Caspar’s knack for conversation and Liam’s down-to-earth personality, the video was like sitting down for lunch with a couple of friends. Though hopefully Liam doesn’t have to be conned into all of his lunch dates. (Our DMs and lunch breaks are both open, Liam. We know you’re reading.)
Baby With A Gun 2 | TomSka
It’s the sequel to your favourite comedy sketch involving infants and dangerous firearms! (Which would be a much less catchy alternative title. Also, these should really be the only sketches involving babies with guns. If you’re here to provide us with more examples, we have… several questions.)
Honestly, we’re just in awe of how many different inflections Tom Ridgewell can give the words “It’s a baby with a gun” — a testament to his acting chops! And would anyone have guessed that plot twist? If so, get them a spot on the writing team for Baby With A Gun 3. We’re here for it.
I Took Myself To Paris | 168 Hours | Lucy Moon
There are very few series that can elicit an audible reaction of excitement upon seeing them in the subscription box. Lucy Moon’s 168 Hours is one of them.
If there was one word that kept cropping up in the video comments in her latest instalment, it was this one: honest. Really, we couldn’t choose a better word to capture this video. This episode will leave you feeling like you’ve watched a full-length film in just seven minutes, stirring up thoughts on the strain between balancing independence and relationships, and on love, both for others and for yourself. But above all, we’re glad to see Lucy falling back into step and creating content that feels authentic!
When You Should Quit | AhsantetheArtist
Who other than New Age Creators would bless us this Monday with a bit of wisdom? Ahsante Bean is here this week breathing life into her advice on failure through sharp editing and animations.
There isn’t a shortage of YouTube videos suggesting combatting failure with undying perseverance and optimism. “You can do anything if you believe in yourself!” Quitting is a taboo, an out-of-the-question option deemed a failure in itself. While there are situations that call for pushing through, Ahsante reminds us that dropping from something that we don’t enjoy isn’t a failure and to put our health and happiness first.
Currently putting together a petition to have Ahsante visit our offices as our personal life coach. Stay tuned.
Malibu – Miley Cyrus (Cover) | Bethan Leadley
Did we really anticipate that we’d spend our afternoons with an acoustic harp cover of a Miley Cyrus song on repeat? No, but neither did you, and yet here we are, collectively fawning over Bethan Leadley’s cover of Malibu.
We’re not casually throwing that praise around either. The timbre of Bethan’s voice is perfectly suited for Miley’s songs, and those octave-up backing vocals underneath the chorus? GIRL. And if you’re not completely taken by the music alone, the video itself is a masterpiece filled with warm, nostalgic tones, and some ~prime~ lens flare. If Bethan grinning ear to ear, bare-faced, with hair in her eyes while she hugs a tree isn’t going to brighten your Monday, we’re not sure what will.
If you thought that those superheroes would stop at five, you’re sorely mistaken!
Niki and Sammy Albon come to us with a perfectly crafted introduction to the world of K-pop music. Seriously, if there’s anyone we trust to guide us thoroughly through the ins and outs of the genre, it’s this pair.
Trust us when we tell you that, no matter how hard your morning has been, it hasn’t come close to that of Dean Dobbs in the newest Jack and Dean sketch. At least he can rest in peace now! *finger guns*
If you’re ready to cry-laugh and contemplate never eating a single drop of hot sauce ever again, you’ll LOVE Connie Glynn attempting some ambitious impressions as she works her way through some spicy chicken. We’re in favour of the milk moustache becoming a permanent accessory!
If we had Kiera Rose’s skill for adorable little doodles, we don’t think there would be a blank office wall at TenEighty HQ. It’s no wonder we couldn’t get enough of her newest take on a favourites video!
