It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
No, we don’t mean Christmas (although that is a pretty wonderful time too). We’re talking about the Eurovision Song Contest, the greatest singing competition Europe – and Australia – has ever seen! From the glitter and sass, the crazy outfits, and enviable dance moves, social media was abuzz over this year’s competition, and many a YouTuber was gathered around their television ready to take part in all the excitement.
In case you happened to be away from your computer (or had passed out from the many drinking games we’re sure occurred), we’ve rounded up our fave tweets and comments from the night… And boy, what a night it was.
The anticipation was building

Happy Hunger Games bitches #Eurovision

Let’s be honest, are you really a European citizen if you don’t get unnaturally excited for Eurovision?
Not so diverse after all…
'This year's #eurovision theme is diversity'
'Introducing your hosts… 3 white men'— Bry (@BryOnTour) May 13, 2017
Ah a white Destiny's Child attempt
They're just KNOCKING the theme of #diversity out of the park this year lads #Eurovision #esc2017 #NED
— Seán Connolly (@TheSonicScrew) May 13, 2017
This year’s theme was “celebrate diversity”, but if you ask us, Bry, Seán Connolly, and pretty much everyone else watching, it was severely lacking in the “diversity” part.
Such copycats
if they wanted phil and i to host they could have just asked there's no need to hijack our style #Eurovision pic.twitter.com/ciRX8sxBHy
— Daniel Howell (@danielhowell) May 13, 2017
To be honest, we would have much preferred Dan Howell and Phil Lester hosting this year’s contest, instead of these two… Is it just us or did their smiles leave you feeling rather uncomfortable?
Bulgaria were channeling anime
Bulgaria's entrant looks like he's ready to enter a Yu-Gi-Oh card tournament #Eurovision
— Martyn Littlewood (@InTheLittleWood) May 13, 2017
Martyn Littlewood, is there anything wrong with wanting to show the world you’re the ultimate duel-er?
Eurovision, about singing? NEVER!
Ooh, baby can't sing. Oh well. He's very pretty. #isr #Eurovision
— Jazza John (@JazzaJohn) May 13, 2017
disappointed that the acts this year seem to have mistaken this for a singing competition #Eurovision
— Lex Croucher (@lexcanroar) May 13, 2017
It’s Eurovision, Jazza John! Who ever said proper talent was actually needed?! If we wanted that, we’d tune into X Factor.
Distance will never keep a Brit from Eurovision
Having a #Eurovision party in Florida! Forcing all my family to watch 😎🌴🎶
— Phil Lester (@AmazingPhil) May 13, 2017
For the second year in a row, Phil was out of the country during Eurovision. But like a true Brit, he didn’t let an entire ocean keep him from taking part in all the excitement!
Who exactly was the Belarus singer?
Wow Matty from the 1975 has really gone in a new direction for #Eurovision
— fiona (@neonfiona) May 13, 2017
So THAT'S what Lee Mead is up to these days. Whatever floats your boat. #Eurovision
— Luke Spillane 🚀 (@lukespillane) May 13, 2017
If you ask NeonFiona and Luke Spillane, it appears the Belarus singer must have been an alien with the ability to shapeshift into any musician that came to mind! Matt Healy, Lee Mead, Harry Styles… Is there anyone this guy didn’t look like?!
Austria bringing it back… Way back
This is boring 90s pop song that smooth fm will play and you will suddenly go "oh I forgot that was a thing" #AUT #Eurovision
— Ellen Rose (@icklenellierose) May 13, 2017
Oh, how we miss the nineties, the time of cringey hair cuts and pop groups. Ellen Rose, how do you feel about forming one with us? We could be called C-R-I-N-G-E and be the next viral sensation!
Gunther was a true style icon
#Moldova are channelling Gunther from friends #Eurovision pic.twitter.com/abtUemNQDg
— GABRIELLA (@velvetgh0st) May 13, 2017
Gabriella Lindley, we know you’re not the only one who has secretly wished they were as stylish as the Friends icon! Those button-ups? So chic.
#EpicSaxGuy
Let's be honest epic sax guy is the only good thing about this song #Eurovision
— Leadley (@musicalbethan) May 13, 2017
In case you were unaware, Bethan Leadley and ourselves have founded a fan club for Epic Sax Guy, and we’re now accepting applications for treasurer and social media co-ordinator. Please apply via Twitter.
A meme reborn

— pewdiepie (@pewdiepie) May 13, 2017
Just when we thought the Harambe memes had disappeared, Italy had to go and give them new life…
Since when could Ben Cook sing?!

Leave it to Croatia to show us that no one is immune to Disney’s appeal.
Wait, the UK’s entry was actually good?!
I love this UK's entry #UK #Eurovision pic.twitter.com/N6k1poMx6D

No, really. Our entry was actually good this year!
Sweden stole our hearts
Well hello #SWE 😍 you might just get my vote #Eurovision
— Scola Dondo (@ScolaDondo) May 13, 2017
Those gosh darn Swedes not only stole Scola Dondo‘s heart, they stole ours too!
STREAKER! This is why we can’t have nice things, Australia
Soooo…I dont think Australia will be invited back next year #EUROVISION
— Melanie Baker (@mel0nnn) May 13, 2017
Australia, it was nice having you involved in the contest for all these years. You’ll be missed.
And the winner is…
GUYS I AM SCREAMING WE WON THE #EUROVISION OH MY GOD pic.twitter.com/01ZgeAVhw4
— raphael gomes (@raphablueberry) May 13, 2017
Well done Portugal; lovely words, and 53 years of hard work! #Eurovision
— Jonny Vickers (@jonnyvickers) May 13, 2017
Is this the first year where we’ve all, for the most part, actually agreed on the winner? What is this sorcery?!
Is it Eurovision 2018 yet?
Seriously, can you believe we have to wait a full year until the next competition?! What on earth are we going to do during that time? Oh wait, we know, you can read these amazingly awesome articles you might have missed amid the Eurovision excitement:
