April showers bring May flowers!
…unless you’re in London, where April showers usually bring May showers, which in turn bring June showers and… well, you can see a pattern. Luckily, someone seems to have sprinkled a fair dose of inspiration throughout the internet this week because our faves have showed up with their A-game. As always, we’ve curated only the finest here for you in this week’s Round-Up, so you’ve got a good time in store, rain or shine!
asdfmovie10 | TomSka
No, this is not some elaborate April Fool’s Day prank — it’s HERE and NO we’re NOT FINE.
The latest and last instalment of Tom ‘TomSka’ Ridgewell’s asdfmovie series has arrived, and it’s living up to all of our expectations. Not only is it the fab comedy we’re all too used to from the TomSka channel amplified with some of our favorite creator’s voice-acting skills, but it hits a certain nostalgia button for those who remember the series in its entirety. If you haven’t watched it on repeat like we have for the past hour, we can guarantee you’re not watching it right. Trust us, we’re experts.
DEAR SEPARATION ANXIETY | a short about fear of losing parents | Melanie Murphy
Melanie Murphy’s video this week is equal parts heart-wrenching and heartwarming, which honestly just isn’t even fair.
Trying her hand at something a bit more cinematic than her normal vlogs, Melanie articulates the battle she is experiencing with separation anxiety as an adult and not only speaks eloquently on her struggles, but turns her thought process into art as well. It’s an issue that doesn’t get to share the stage too often, and we’re so happy Melanie has been able to fill that big sister role she fits into so well and give light to it.
YOUR OLD MAN | Short Film | TimH
These aren’t the April showers we were talking about, but don’t tell us we didn’t warn you that you may need a few tissues for this one.
Tim Hautekiet makes a stunning return to YouTube with his newest short film Your Old Man, a piece marked by its poignant writing and remarkably talented cast. Relatable but unusual, the plot follows a girl who, on the day of her grandfather’s funeral, discovers that her own dad was actually adopted. Seriously, this thing picked us up and plopped us on a feels trip that we didn’t ask for, but boy are we glad for it
Congrats on all of the film’s success, Tim! It’s incredibly well-deserved.
Potato Prints | DanAndPhilCRAFTS
Trusty web-cam? Check. Fun crafts you can do with your friends on any occasion? Check. Demonic possession through a satanic ritual? Yep, also check.
Leave it to Dan Howell and Phil Lester to take the cake with this year’s April Fool’s Day content with a dramatic end to the trilogy no one knew they needed. Seriously, are we sure we didn’t just watch the preview to some new horror game that’s about to be the subject of every let’s-play on the internet? We’re not going to spoil too much for you here, but we’ll certainly be missing our two crafty videos per day.
Living Room Shootout – JACK AND DEAN (feat. Hazel Hayes & Bertie Gilbert)
First the release of Jack & Dean of All Trades Season Two, and now a new sketch? Don’t mind if we do!
The newest sketch from Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs showcases the best of what the pair have to offer as comedy writers. The writing is quick and witty, the editing is smart, and, of course, the acting is on point. After all, the whole thing was entirely reasonable. Given there’s only one strawberry cream chocolate left, wouldn’t you draw your finger guns and do the same?
We couldn’t possible keep it down to five this week…
Are you a fan of Ray Roberts’s Wayfarer Sessions? His newest installment stars Myles Wheeler and a rather, err, interesting set of creative choices. Personally, we prefer that all of our April Fool’s content ends with wailing away on a kitchen pot.
Perhaps the most prolific animated antagonist in the entire YouTubesphere, Fuzzwald the penguin makes a triumphant return to PJ Liguori’s channel in his newest sketch.
Don’t think we haven’t left you without a song recommendation! This week, Hania’s adorable little tune The Sun has captivated us and left us twirling around the TenEighty office.
When she’s not sniping her friends from behind couches over the last chocolate in the box, Hazel Hayes is enlightening us about the brilliance of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
