Cherry Wallis will be uploading Halloween-inspired makeup tutorials throughout October.
She announced the series with a trailer on her channel:
The tutorials will feature SFX makeup and familiar characters, as well as some of Cherry‘s original creations.
“Halloween has always been my favourite month for as long as I can remember,” she tells TenEighty. “I love that it’s a month where people can get creative, and transform themselves into whatever they want to.”
Talking about her favourite characters to dress up as, she adds: “I quite enjoy the characters where I no longer look like myself, as it’s really cool seeing something/someone else in the mirror.”
Asked whether she prefers to work on familiar characters or original creations, Cherry says she really enjoys the former, especially in the case of Snow White, who has been her favourite Disney princess since she was a toddler. “I felt quite emotional seeing Snow White in the mirror once I had finished – I brought her to life, I felt like I was her, which was a very bizarre feeling. However, creating unique original looks can also be a lot of fun – the possibilities are endless.”
Cherry has already filmed and edited the videos in the series, the majority of which were completed by February, but has been keeping her lips firmly sealed about the project until now. “It’s been a long eight months, I tell you! Keeping a secret is not my strength… but I managed to keep this to myself until now.
“Honestly, I can’t choose one that I’m most excited to release,” she adds. “I’ve put my heart and soul into all of them. They’re my tiny little video babies which I’ve nurtured – it honestly feels like I’m sending them off to their first day of school.”
This set of videos marks a new direction for Cherry. “I’ve been making videos on YouTube for four years, but each year I’ve struggled with my identity,” she admits. “It’s made it hard to answer when asked, ‘What do you do on YouTube?’… because I didn’t know.”
She will now be focussing more on the types of video found in the upcoming series, and will be exploring her creativity as a makeup artist.
“Some of my very first videos were special effects makeup tutorials – this has always been a part of me,” she affirms. “It’s just been a long journey finding out that this is what I truly enjoy doing. I’ve been a girl of all trades for too long, but this year I found what makes me happiest, and where I can be my most creative.
“Before YouTube, all I used to do was art. Art was my life. Sadly I felt I lost most of my creativity throughout my YouTube career, and I needed to get it back.”
