We can’t believe summer holidays are over already!
Wasn’t it just yesterday that we said goodbye to our teachers and ran out into the blazing summer sun, ready for what was sure to be the best month-and-a-half of our lives? J.K. Rowling, we’d really appreciate it if we could borrow Hermione’s time-turner. We don’t want this summer to end!
Okay, we might not have a time-turner, but at least we have YouTube videos – lots of them! There’s no better way to kick those back-to-school blues than chilling with our faves through the power of the internet, which is why we decided to make this week’s Round-Up extra special. Whether you like music, need some advice or are looking to relive the summer, we’ve got the videos you need to keep your mind off of school.
We hope you enjoy!
Somebody Else (The 1975) – beccarr11
Kicking off this week’s Round-Up is a cover of The 1975’s Somebody Else by our fave Rebecca Need-Menear and her pal Ally Newbigging. It’s no secret that we here at the TenEighty office are a fan of Becca’s work, so we were pretty pumped to see this cover in our sub box!
This video’s got everything a good cover needs: The 1975, dope editing skills, mood lighting and talent that makes you ask the music gods why you weren’t blessed with such a voice. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ve been told we could empty a room in seconds with our vocals, which, when you think about it, isn’t necessarily the worst thing. We don’t like human interaction anyway.
10 Truths About University – jimmy0010
Since everyone’s returning to school, we felt it only right to include at least one video that would help you navigate the educational world, and there’s no-one better to give advice than Jimmy Hill. We mean, the guy’s got a first in History, which means he’s super smart (or so he claims).
Jimmy was kind enough to offer those of us heading off to university a few tips on how to survive the upcoming year, all from personal experience (so you know it’s good). From limiting the amount of things you bring to your dorm to giving you the inside scoop on how to navigate the massive amount of reading you’re expected to do, Jimmy offers some great advice that’s sure to make this year a great one.
We suggest you grab a pen.
JULY | TOTM 2016 – ChewingSand
Lookie here, it looks like the latest video in Hazel Hayes‘s Time of the Month series has stumbled into our laps. Wait, can videos stumble? It’s one of life’s great mysteries.
This month’s TOTM is definitely one of the best yet and it’s not very hard to see why! Not only are we taken on a journey through San Francisco with Jack Howard, Dean Dobbs, Bertie Gilbert, Daniel J. Layton, and Cayleigh Goodson, but we also get a sneak peek into the world of movie premieres, which is pretty cool. Include some indie background music and slick editing skills and you’ve got one hell of a video!
TOTM has us feeling major FOMO, but don’t worry, we know Hazel didn’t intentionally not invite us on her latest adventure. We’re sure our invite just got lost in the mail. Just message us next time!
Rome – A Travel Diary – SuperSamStuff
Why include only one travel diary in the Round-Up when we can share two? After all, we did promise that you’d get to relive the summer.
Our latest entry comes from Sam Saffold-Geri‘s trip to Rome. However, it’s not the travel vlog you might expect because Sam unfortunately lost his footage from the trip (RIP). But hey, at least he’s got some pretty awesome pictures to show us!
The loss of his footage has Sam questioning a lot about why he films so much of his life, and it’s a great commentary we’re sure the majority of those on YouTube can relate to. Why is video so important? Does it create a sense of permanence, or do we view it as a type of souvenir? We never expected a travel vlog to get so deep.
Put Your Records On – Cover – stuffbyJas
And so we close out our Round-Up the same way it began: with a cover. And not just any cover, a cover of Corinne Bailey Rae’s classic tune, Put Your Records On.
We’ve been a fan of stuffbyJas for some time now, and we feel this cover is the perfect example as to why. Not only does her soft voice make her music so soothing to listen to, but her quirky and fun attitude makes her videos a joy to watch! Don’t believe us? Just look at the way she strums that guitar and rocks those snazzy sunglasses.
Still looking for a distraction from that pile of homework on your desk? Well, since you asked so nicely…
Has PJ Liguori managed to discover the cure for all sickness? We’ll let you be the judge.
Body image is an issue many of us struggle with, especially in the age of Photoshop, plastic surgery, and Instagram. It’s something Rosianna Halse Rojas struggles with too, as she shares in her latest video.
The lads over at SORTEDfood have done it again with their Ultimate Brownie Battle. Guys, care to send a few (or all) of those brownies our way? Our mouths are watering!
Do you ever watch Steven Bridges and wish you had his awesome magic skills? Well, prepare to be amazed as he yet again shows us why he’s one of the coolest magicians on YouTube.
