Okay guys, let’s all take a deep breath.
Are we all okay? It’s been a rocky few days over here by anyone’s standards, but fear not – we’re here to (sort of) distract you for a little while. Yes, this Round-Up has everything you need to unwind: poetry, 360-degree video, death, Christmas… and above all, a bit of optimism!
Yes, we said death and optimism in one sentence. It’s been a weird week in our sub boxes…
Look Around You – Ben Brown
We’ll be honest, we still haven’t got over the novelty of holding our phones, twirling around with them and watching the video spin around as well, but we have to admit, we’d look a little weird doing it in public. Not that we’ve done that, of course…
Aside from looking a tad odd, we really loved this video from Ben Brown. It’s been a bit of a turbulent couple of weeks and it turns out this is JUST what we needed for a bit of a pick-me-up.
Rubix | Short Film – radhaggis
From optimism to… not so much optimism. You might need to settle down with a cup of tea for this one.
Just when we were least expecting it, Ewan McIntosh hit us right between the eyes with a pretty damn dark short film, starring Dan Stokes, Jake Dunn, Gemma Laurie, and Martin Johnstone. There are definite hints of A Clockwork Orange in this and it feels oddly fitting that the film landed on YouTube the day the EU Referendum result was announced. The timing somehow makes the darkness of the film even more unsettling.
Good work, Team Rubix!
We Are British – JustKissMyFrog
You’ve got to hand it to Leena Normington: she turned round this slam poem unbelievably quick, and she seems to have hit the nail on the head with how we are feeling right now.
Without getting tooooooooo political, it’s safe to say there are a lot of people who aren’t happy with the way the EU Referendum played out, and we’re actually quite impressed that Leena was put together such an eloquent poem.
BRB, sending this to everyone we know.
Baking Bad – Jack & Dean Of All Trades – Jack & Dean
Laughter! That’s what we need! And luckily for us, we’ve got Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs to bring some funny, fight with loaves of bread, and do some pretty impressive kick-ups (yes, we’re looking at you, Jack), and it’s all in the first episode of Jack & Dean Of All Trades.
We’re probably never going to look at a bakery (or a baguette) in the same way again, and we’re definitely going to watch the rest of the series on Fullscreen because if this episode is anything to go by, there’s a whole lot more laughter to come!
Into You | Ariana Grande Cover – Lucy Moon
After all that, we just want to put on our headphones and hide away from the world for a little bit, and we’re going to start right here with Lucy Moon‘s cover of Ariana Grande’s Into You.
This cover is just so wonderfully chilled out and pretty, which – to be honest – is just what we need after the week we’ve had. We’re also hoping this is the start of more music from Lucy because we would be VERY okay with that!
Still hiding from your Facebook feed and the news? Yep, us too. Onto more videos!
PJ Liguori has released his latest short film, Hair and Brimstone, and it’s just as spectacularly weird and wonderful as we expected. And to top it off, it stars Andrea Valls, Chris Kendall, Jack Howard, Dean Dobbs, and Dodie Clark. What more could you possibly want?!
Emma Blackery brought back her ever-popular series Just Girl Things, and well… put it this way: we won’t be going camping with her anytime soon, or asking her to make us BBQ. Soz, Emma. We still love you, though.
And finally, Tom Fletcher carried on his trick of spectacular announcement videos with his new book cover reveal video, in which he dressed as a Christmas elf and travelled across London. Yep. Really.
