Well HELLO there from by the pool at sunny, sunny Playlist Live in Florida.
JK, we’re at TenEighty HQ in London where it’s definitely not sunny. We’ve spent the weekend living vicariously through everyone lucky enough to be soaking up the sun, all from the comfort of our sofa. So you could say we’re winning on some level at least…
But don’t fret! It’s not like the UK YouTube community have just left us in the lurch. No, they’ve left us with a pile of great videos to keep us entertained until they come home.
(Please come home soon though guys, we miss you!)
Invoke – Cameron Sanderson
We’re kicking things off with another of the NextUp 2016 winners, Cameron Sanderson. We’re not quite sure how we hadn’t stumbled across his channel before, but it’s chock-full of covers, vlogs, and original songs. We’re getting some serious The 1975 vibes from this particular song, which can never be a bad thing! (Fun fact: Cameron’s also done a mashup of songs from The 1975’s latest album which you can watch here.)
Types Of Genders – Roly
Right folks, it’s learning time! Gender can be a complicated topic to discuss, and while awareness of different genders has increased in the last couple of years, there’s always more we can learn and understand.
Enter Roland West, with this very comprehensive guide to some of the different gender identities that people may come across. We certainly learned lots from Roly’s video, and we hope more people can too. The more voices and information that can be added to the conversation, the better! And in that spirit, why not check out our recent feature showcasing a bunch of UK trans YouTubers?
7 Years – Lukas Graham (Cover) – Jasmine Thompson
Feeling the combined strain of Monday and not being in the sunshine of Playlist Live? If we’re really honest, us too. It’s alright though, because Jasmine Thompson‘s here to sing to us.
Ok, she’s not literally here. That would be a little odd tbh, but she’s here in video form with this gorgeous cover of Lukas Graham’s 7 Years. We won’t lie, we’ve heard this song a LOT lately. It’s been sort of hard to escape from it, but Jasmine’s version has put a new spin on it and made it seem all lovely and shiny and new again. Aah. Lovely.
Game of Thrones Nursery Rhymes – Joel Blundell
In case you missed the memo, the new season of Game of Thrones has started, and the internet’s been getting all flustered about it. “But TenEighty, what if Westeros had nursery rhymes?” we hear you ask? Well FEAR NOT. Joel Blundell is all over that with some Game of Thrones-themed songs for you.
Maybe don’t play them to any small children though. Although having said that, Humpty Dumpty was fairly traumatic anyway…
P.S. Spoiler alert. Obvs.
Photograph Magic! – Steven Bridges
We’re back on the NextUp winners again, and this time our favourite magic man Steven Bridges has been doing crazy tricks with a phone, some cards, and Ellie Spigariol.
We have no words for this other that “how, what, how??” followed by a bit of confused spluttering and stuttering, and the only answer we can come up with is pure wizardry. Bet they don’t teach THAT at Hogwarts! Quick question though, Steven: can you use the same wizardry to replace regrettable Facebook photos with fabulous ones? Asking for a friend, obvs…
Still suffering from FOMO of Playlist Live?
(FOMOOPL? Can we get away with that?)
Well, here’s a few more videos to while away the hours until our UK faves are all back in the UK:
Jack Dean has been giving us a few nostalgic feelings for the days of Habbo Hotel, except it seems as though he was something of a scoundrel. Oh dear, there was always one.
Hannah Witton sat down with Daniel J. Layton for a good ol’ chinwag about masculinity, men, and feminism and it’s VERY INTERESTING. Go: watch, learn, laugh.
One of our fave duos, Joel Wood and Lia Hatzakis have been getting people to read Facebook statuses out loud, and we’ve never been so aware of how silly it’s possible to sound. Brb, deleting some questionable posts…
