We’re not sure what’s happened, but this week’s Round-Up has sent us on a bit of a nostalgia spiral.
It’s the sort of spiral that’s making us want orange squash and Penguin bars. You know, the plain chocolate-y ones that used to be in our school packed lunches when we were little. Ooh, those were the days.
Sorry, where were we? Oh yes, 2016. YouTube. Round-Up.
Here, watch these! (While we go and get ourselves some childhood snacks. And maybe some squash. Mmm, squash…)
I Have a Hole In My Tooth (And My Dentists Are Shut) – Doddleoddle
Dodie Clark, is there ANYTHING you can’t write a song about? We’re not sure if it’s the hairstyle (which we’re going to be rocking soon), the flashing colours or the bleepy-bloopy-backing track (technical term…) but we’re getting some serious kids’ TV vibes from this, in the best possible way of course. Ooh, it’s almost like we’re back watching CBBC after school.
So, Dodie, even though your teeth aren’t okay, and your gums are sore, we’re kind of glad you had a hole in your tooth and your dentists were shut, because it brought us this VERY catchy little ditty.
Q & A in Stop Motion – Marie Jaquemin
We don’t often feature a Q&A in a Round-Up, so when we do, well, you know it’s a good’un. Q&A videos are usually seen as a bit of a “filler” video in the world of YouTube, but Marie Jaquemin has taken hers to a whole new level, using stop motion animation to illustrate the questions.
With this sort of creativity in what’s usually a relatively simple video format, we’re just going to sit here and wait for more content from Marie. Don’t mind us, we’re just going to be here. Hitting refresh. Again. And Again…
Forever Quest – KickThePj
Gather round everyone, it’s story time! We all love a story and luckily for us, we’ve got PJ Liguori here with a story locked and loaded and ready to go! This time though, he’s done something slightly different and pretty clever. The storyline has been decided via PJ’s Twitter followers through the most ingenious, creative use of polls we’ve ever seen! And with some gorgeous music and sound design accompanying the story, we’re hooked!
Make sure you’re following PJ on Twitter to take part in the next instalment of the story. We can’t wait to find out what happens next…
Adele – Hello (Pop Punk Cover) – Lou Foulkes
We can’t say we’ve ever thought of Adele’s Hello as a pop-punk cover but that’s okay, because Lou Foulkes blimmin’ well has, hasn’t he? Lou has clearly worked really hard to put this cover together, and it’s paid off. Our YouTube existence has had a bit of a pop-punk cover shaped hole in it of late (we still miss you Patty Walters!), but we’re hoping this is a new dawn.
We love this. LOVE it. MORE pls, kthxbye.
How To: Start YouTube – New Age Creators
If you haven’t stumbled across the New Age Creators‘ channel yet, then you must have really great balance and not fall over much. Seriously, you should trip over more, you never know what you might find!
Okay, so that wasn’t the greatest analogy, but this is a good old-fashioned collab channel, featuring some brilliant content by some, well, New Age Creators. We see what you did there, you smart folk! In this instalment, Orin Willis talks about starting YouTube, making the very valid point that as someone starting out, you’re not going to have the skill-set of someone with several years’ experience. But don’t just stop there! The channel also features creators from around the world: Ana Marta, Chase Vs Everything, Marie Jaquemin (hello again!), and CoquesCorner. So go ahead and get discovering!
Still not enough for your beady eyes?
Lex Croucher turned 24, and gave us 24 very sound pieces of advice in the form of things she’s learned in her 24 years. Note to self: don’t cut up Christmas trees without any gloves. Now we’re off to find some cute dogs to pet and potatoes to eat. It’s okay, Lex told us to…
Our favourite glitter gal, Louise Pentland announced that she is a Change Ambassador for Gender Equality, which is very exciting news! She also vlogged her day in New York, if you want an extra behind the scenes view!
Doug Armstrong made all our carb- and cheese-related dreams come true with a recipe for mac and cheese waffles. Yes, you read that right: mac and cheese waffles. We’ll just say it once more. Mac. And. Cheese. Waffles.
