10 million subscribers? 10 MILLION?!
Zoe Sugg has officially hit that magic, awe-inspiring number and is in line is to get a Diamond Play Button. Kind of like YouTube’s own version of the crown jewels, a Diamond Play is the highest reward YouTube can bestow on a creator (although YouTube should definitely start turning their Play Buttons into jewellery pieces. WE WANT LITERAL CROWNS DAMMIT!). If Zoe wasn’t already considered the queen of UK YouTube she certainly is now.
So in honour of this landmark, we present in all its royal glory: Five of the Best: Zoella Videos!
Giving Tyler Oakley A Makeover | Zoella
Zoe’s made so many great collabs with her YouTube friends that they could easily have their Five of the Best, and one of our favourite combinations is with Tyler Oakley. The sass is just too much to handle, and we’ve learned to keep 999 on speed-dial in case we injure ourselves from giggling too much (seriously, the amount of times we’ve started choking from taking a drink at an inopportune time).
In this video, Zoe does Tyler’s make-up for him, and though Tyler always looks great, we’ve never seen him look quite so fabulous as when Zoe’s finished with him. In fact he should just make this his standard vlogging look. Now we just need Zoe to do Troye Sivan, Connor Franta, Joey Graceffa, and Corey Vidal’s make-up again too, and the most glam boyband ever is ready to go! (There’s a massive gap in the market now One Direction are on hiatus. Just sayin’.)
Get Ready With Me : Beach Walk | Zoella
This one is like a perfect refinement of the beauty vlogging Zoe is so good at, a makeup and hair tutorial and OOTD rolled up into one with a healthy dose of Nala too! (While we’re on the subject, let’s all take a moment of appreciation for that wonderful pug *heart eyes emoji*)
The sheer number of beauty videos we’ve watched here at TenEighty, you’d think some of it would have rubbed off, but no, racoon eyes and clown cheeks every time. And the last time we went for a walk to the beach, a seagull stole our ice-cream, our hair got stuck in our lipgloss, and then we fell over into the sea. Basically we’re glad Zoe gives us something to aspire to (because we REALLY need it).
Boyfriend VS Brother | Zoella
It wouldn’t be a proper Five of the Best without a bit of #zalfie, nor without some proper sibling action between the two Suggs. So what’s better than a video with those two things together? Well one where we also get Joe Sugg flawlessly recreating the face of a taxidermy bear. Seriously though, that was hella impressive Joe.
We also love this video because we can kind of play along and be a tiny bit smug when we beat Alfie Deyes and Joe to an answer. Yeah we have that edition of Company Magazine. Yeah we remember seeing Zoe’s first YouTube video (we’re OLD okay?). Yeah we read Girl Online as soon as it came out. This video totally makes us feel like we’re part of that awesome friend trio and achieving #squadgoals.
Vlogging At 11 Years Old | Zoella
If there was any ever doubt Zoe was born to vlog, this video puts it to rest. Even at the age of 11 she was a natural in front of the camera, producing content rather similar to the “what’s in my bag” and haul videos that are so popular nowadays. What a visionary!
As well as the general adorableness of it all (sidenote: will we ever be over how cute little Joe is?) this video also gave many of us at TenEighty HQ massive nostalgia feels for our own childhoods. Especially that Nokia 3310. Oh the hours we spent playing Snake on that, makes Candy Crush look like NOTHING.
This video was in honour of Zoe reaching a mere four million subs, a number she was already struggling to comprehend. And now it’s at 10. We’re surprised her mind hasn’t literally exploded as well as metaphorically because of it all.
Dealing with Panic Attacks & Anxiety | Zoella
In what was a bit of a different video for her channel, Zoe started a crucial conversation in the YouTube community with this discussion about mental health. Although more common now, a well-known beauty vlogger speaking honestly about her personal experience with anxiety was pretty huge for 2012, and helped encourage fellow vloggers to show more complex versions of themselves and break the “perfect” personas content creators had felt obligated to perform.
We love this video because it shows the power of YouTube as a platform. As Zoe mentions, if she can help one person it’s worth it and you can’t not love her even more for that kind of attitude.
Additionally, being vocal about her anxiety led to Zoe’s involvement with Mind in late 2014, helping her to spread awareness about panic attacks in young people past her subscriber base. So thanks Zoe for not only making the world a more beautiful place, but also making us feel less alone!
