Hands up if you’re still keeping up your New Year’s resolutions.
Anyone? No? You should have taken a leaf out of our book. We’re keeping ours perfectly. Okay we may only have the one resolution, and it may be the overly achievable “watch more YouTube”, but why set yourself up for a fall? We know what we’re good at and we’re sticking to it. None of those resolutions we’re going to fail miserably at. Nope.
So come grab a cup of hot cocoa, ignore that cold weather going on outside, and join us as we play to our strengths and showcase some of the week’s finest videos.
How To Find Yourself – Leena Normington
The lovely Leena Normington has made us feel all warm and fuzzy inside with this video that we can only really describe as profound. Now that we’re just about past the 2015 nostalgia, we’re all starting to look forward to what’s to come and, oh, who are we kidding we can’t bring anything to the words in this video, they’re just too good. SO JUST WATCH IT K?
And while you do that, we’re going to follow Leena’s advice and do some baking and dancing around the kitchen. (We do these things on a regular basis anyway, but y’know, any excuse.)
Learning To Like Myself – Tom Ridgewell
This week, Tom Ridgewell has taken to his second channel to agree with us about New Year’s resolutions. (Just save yourself the disappointment folks!)
Of course though, that’s not the real crux of this video, which sees Tom talk self esteem, selfies and #selfiesteem! We at TenEighty a) love a selfie, b) remember the all too real struggle of pre-front-facing camera selfies, and c) occasionally wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night because of said memories. In all seriousness though, we are so on board with the idea of taking selfies to improve your self confidence and document your year, and will shout down anyone who argues against it. SHOUT. THEM. DOWN. So, we are sending a load of support your way Tom!
We would also join you in this project, but we’re an online magazine, and, well, online magazines can’t take selfies. Yet.
A Conversation With Cancer – Jonny Vickers
As you’re probably aware, it hasn’t been the happiest week in the world of cultural icons, with the sad loss of both David Bowie and Alan Rickman to cancer. (Do you think we can reload 2016 and start again? Did we remember to save properly on NYE?)
In just 30 seconds, Jonny Vickers has managed to say what we’ve all been thinking this week. Plus, he’s donating all the proceeds from this video to charity, so it’s well worth your click if only for that. (Similarly, give this video featuring Alan Rickman a li’l watch too, and maybe save a life.)
We endorse this message 100% Jonny.
The Object Project – Maddie Drury
We’ve all had projects we’ve started and haven’t finished, but none of them look quite as pretty as Maddie Drury‘s. There are metaphorical windows, actual windows, pretty lights, pretty colours: it’s almost a bit too much!
Of course there’s a serious side to this, and we take our hats off* to Maddie for doing the brave thing of recovering from a “creative hiccup” and beginning her 12 month long object project! Maddie, we can’t wait to see what you create.
*We didn’t actually take our hats off, it’s too cold out and our ears are sensitive things.
Fast Car (Matt Bate Acoustic Cover) – Matt Bate
What better way to finish than with a bit of a song, eh? Welcome to the stage, Matt Bate. This cover is so super chilled, it makes the cold weather outside feel like mid summer. Ish. (Did we mention it’s cold outside yet? Cus like, seriously. WHERE DID YOU COME FROM WINTER? WHERE WERE YOU HIDING?)
We demand more music from you, Matt. More! More! MORE!
Haven’t finished your cocoa yet?
Okay then, we suppose we can dig up a couple more gems for you. Starting with PJ Liguori, who’s recorded a cover of David Bowie’s Space Oddity in tribute to the late singer (it’s never going to feel right saying that is it?).
The ever lovely Carrie Hope Fletcher broke our hearts little bit with her new original song I’ll Find A Way while also bringing back those warm and fuzzy feelings like Leena gave us at the same time. How do you do that, Carrie?!
And finally, Dan Howell has taken a look back at his 2015 in memes. Because no-one can be meme’d like Dan!
