We don’t want a lot for Christmas.
There is just one thing we need.
We don’t care about those presents, underneath the Christmas tree. (Well, we do a bit.)
We just want more videos, more than we have ever known.
Grant our wish YouTube. All we want for Christmas is…
Five of the Best festive treats from your fav creators! *runs across the room to start hitting a keyboard*
Christmas With Our YouTube Friends | Childline – Childline
What’s better than a Christmas video with one of your fav YouTubers in it? One with a whole bunch of them of course! ChildLine decided to ask Sam King, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Dodie Clark, Marc Zapanta, Daniel J Layton, Dottie James, Melanie Murphy and Calum McSwiggan (whew, what a list!) what Christmas means to them this holiday season. That food and drink features heavily in their choices is something we deeply, deeply empathise with here at TenEighty; as we write this we’re also wiping away the crumbs from our tenth mince pie of the day #noshame. And of course you chose Strictly, Daniel, of course.
Make sure you stick around to the very end too, to see Carrie put on a Dalek mask (what happened to its eyestalk though?!) which is definitely one of those things we didn’t know we needed until it happened. Is there already a petition to get Carrie on Doctor Who? Can we start one?
XMAS HATE LIST – Alex Bertie
While we here at TenEighty are massive advocates for all the goodness Christmas can bring, we do also accept there can be sides to it that deserve a good old fashioned moan about. Therefore Alex Bertie‘s video was right up our (illuminated by only the gaudiest Christmas decorations possible) street.
Reeling off what he dislikes about this time of year, our favourite inclusion might be “Scrooges”. In a video literally titled XMAS HATE LIST. The irony is strong with this one. (We’re joking of course. If Alex was anyone from A Christmas Carol it would probably be Tiny Tim.)
Seriously though, there is a lot to complain about this time of year, but if, like Alex, you can manage to balance that with Christmas cheer too, well you’ll have a recipe for the perfect British Christmas.
☆ JINGLE JANGLE ☆- PJ Liguori
The ukulele might as well be dubbed the official instrument of YouTube, with loads of our favs showcasing their talent on the cute little not-a-guitar, so does it surprise anyone that PJ Liguori plays one on the reg? The Oscar’s Hotel creator was kind enough to give us an early present this Christmas – alongside his hilarious advent calendar series – in the form of this short, yet utterly charming, rendition of Jingle Bells.
By now, we’re sure you’re probably sick of hearing Christmas music (even if we here at TenEighty HQ can’t understand why *plays All I Want For Christmas Is You for the zillionth time*), but we promise, PJ’s cover is different. Bring in the video’s mood lighting and we guarantee you and your loved ones will be huddling around the computer, singing carols and leaving your neighbours wishing they’d received ear plugs for Christmas.
We only have one question: PJ, when can we expect your collab with Dodie Clark?
Santa’s Not Real?! – Dodie Clark
Speaking of Dodie, we’ve seen her be part of a lot of great sketches across the YouTube stratosphere but this Christmas she gifted us with one of her own, and it’s a fantastic debut. In it, we find Dodie, overflowing with Christmas joy, learning that *spoiler alert* Santa isn’t real (sorry kids!).
The next three minutes prove to be an emotional roller-coaster as Sammy Paul, who begins the sketch as the token Scrooge, learns the true meaning of Christmas. So, if you’ve ever found yourself with a need to see Sammy wearing a turkey hat or Dodie assaulting a Christmas Tree, this sketch should not be missed.
Not The John Lewis Christmas Advert – Hazel Hayes
We started watching this thinking it was incredibly uncharacteristic of Hazel Hayes’s usual style; there was a distinct lack of wine for a start.
Written by Hazel and Paul Neafcy, this has all of the makings of a John Lewis ad. It’s got the requisite cute kid and house we’d like to live in, as well as the dreamy colour palette and classic soundtrack. Is it weird that we sort of want Hazel and Khyan Mansley as our parents? Only if Hazel wears that wig, though.
We won’t spoil the ending in case you haven’t seen it yet, but it’s classic Hazel.
And if this video is what Santa is judging her on, we’re sure she’ll get loads of presents this year. Probably.
