The vlogger was recently transformed into a fairy during her photoshoot with fine art photographer Linda Blacker.
Last year, photographer Linda Blacker began working with YouTubers to bring fans her YouTuber Christmas Collaboration series. This year, she’s partnered with vlogger and West End star Carrie Hope Fletcher to create a mystical fairy-themed story.
“The ideas for the visual were quite clear once I had the story,” says Linda, speaking with TenEighty. “I began with building the set, then moved on to styling the clothing for the shoot and designing a base idea for the makeup. It was then that I got in touch with makeup artist Marc Zapanta, also known as the ‘Prince of Vanity’ on YouTube. He then [brought] his wonderful talent to the shoot and created a final makeup design.”
As aforementioned, the four photos are part of this year’s YouTuber Christmas Collaboration, with Linda designing the shoot around Carrie herself: “Carrie really looks like she has stepped out of a fairytale anyway, with her golden locks, so it wasn’t difficult! It’s always wonderful working with an actor – they always know how to bring a character to life.”
“I’d been following Linda’s work for a while, as a lot of my friends had been in her photos,” explains Carrie. “I’d been desperate to work with her, so when she approached me, before I’d even heard her idea, it was a resounding ‘yes’ from me!”
The photos in the series were released in four parts, with the first photo published on 2 December and the final one on 13 December. The shoot was put together by Linda, with Carrie’s makeup being done by makeup artist and beauty vlogger Marc Zapanta, who Carrie especially enjoyed working with.
“Marc Zapanta is a dream to work with,” she says. “We had such fun doing the shoot, so the day was filled with laughing and giggles, and the photos are the results of Linda and Marc’s brilliance, which was wonderful to witness for an afternoon!”
The photo series tells the story of a fairy who lives deep within a labyrinth under the human world. As Linda explains: “She guards a magical statue, where an enchanted stone toad lives. This toad is the key to the portal, which allows access to the fairy world. The fairies never want the humans to enter their world, through fear they will bring violence and war to the fairies’ peaceful lands.”
In order to keep the humans from discovering the fairies’ world, Carrie’s character is tasked with being the guardian of the key, which she guards everyday. When she falls asleep at night, she becomes one with the statue, to ensure no one takes him from her.
“Every night, she drinks the water from the portal and something [magical] happens!” adds Carrie.
Concluding, Linda says: “Usually, every shoot I do will come with a story, as my main goal is to always tell a tale with my imagery. I really hope everyone enjoyed this photographic series!”
