The Independent has ranked the YouTuber #18 on this year’s Rainbow List.
In the 16th year of the Rainbow List, The Independent‘s annual celebration of the work of lesbian, gay, transgender and intersex individuals, a team of nine judges has voted Mawaan Rizwan as one of the most influential LGBTI pioneers in the UK. The judges, including previous winner/journalist Paris Lees and drag queen Asifa Lahore, whittled down thousands of public nominations to 101, ranking Mawaan #18.
Upon hearing the news of his inclusion, Mawaan tweeted:
Bloody honoured to be part of #TheRainbowList. What an inspiring bunch of peoples: https://t.co/IzYmfunOR8 #LGBTI #LGBTIEquality

Previously known as the Pink List, this year’s winner, EastEnders actor Riley Carter Millington, is the first transman to take home the top billing. 2015’s Rainbow List also marks the first time since the award’s inception where those who identify as intersex have been recognised for their work.
