The YouTuber and filmmaker has released a video appeal to his audience in an attempt to stop the illegal uploading of his new Oscar’s Hotel series.
In a video titled “PLEASE DON’T KILL MY SHOW”, PJ explains how he’s upset at the discovery that people have been re-uploading Oscar’s Hotel to YouTube, as well as illegally downloading it.
The show is currently available on Vimeo On Demand for £1.99 an episode or £6.99 for the entire six-episode series. While re-uploads mean that people are able to view the series for free, the actions do cause long-term repercussions for PJ’s creative team, and may ultimately kill the show off completely.
PJ goes on to explain that, by having people pay for the series, he and his team were allowed to create a show that matched their artistic integrity, as well as allowed them to avoid sponsorship deals with companies that would have wanted a say in the creation of the show in exchange for funding, on top of product placements and advertisement.
“The really ironic thing is, if I were to make it for free, everything that you want from Oscar’s Hotel wouldn’t exist,” says PJ.
Following the release of the video, members of the YouTube community have rallied in support of PJ’s decision to address the issue.
@kickthepj sucks that you had to even MAKE this. People suck. Can't wait to watch Oscar's Hotel at the weekend. I know it'll be brilliant. 🐙

Don't kill Oscar's Hotel! If it wasn't paid for content it wouldn't be the show we love. Don't illegally download! https://t.co/RrIyy6ZBor

This really gets on my nerves. Not just for Oscar's Hotel, but for all projects that people work so hard on. https://t.co/2WaGxzarOY

“I do understand that a large portion of my demographic don’t have money, and I can’t argue with people that claim that they don’t have money,” says PJ. ” Just please, don’t illegally download my show, as much as you might want to. It sets a bad precedent for what the show is about, and what it stands for.”
