Who decided summer is over? Where can we file a complaint? Who can we write a strongly worded email to?
What do you mean Mother Nature never checks her inbox anyway? Fine, we’ll just distract ourselves with YouTube videos instead.
To help take your minds off the fact that the leaves will soon be falling from the trees, we’ve lined up a selection of the best videos from British YouTubers from August’s final week. So without further ado…
Fratocrats – TwinJoke Episode 2
You know what the world needs more of? More twin collaboration channels. No, seriously! It’s about time the Harries twins and Niki & Sammy Albon were given a run for their money, and this is offered by the Fratocrats, Mike and Jacob, who have started gracing our screens with their weekly show, TwinJoke.
The brothers pull from their comedy roots and sketches on the site with their sarcastically satirical take on the news Donald Trump monologues and tormenting each other with the Box Of Infinite Unsettling Possibilities.
Slickly produced and foul mouthed, this comes highly recommended. Give them some love and let them know TenEighty sent you!
Rosianna Halse-Rojas – Mainstream
Casey Neistat, filmmaker, founder of Beme and professional cool person, recently surpassed 1 million subscribers and aptly made a video celebrating the fact. There were streamers. It was fun. Watch it here. In said video Casey praised the accessibility of YouTube and how the lack of gate-keepers made the platform democratic, egalitarian and meritocratic.
Britain’s own Rosianna Halse-Rojas thought otherwise, and made a response to Casey’s claims pivoting her attention to the high bars of entry, the importance of speaking English and the problems with these high entry points!
This sparked a load of video responses to Casey’s original video; who said video responses were dead? Why not join in with the conversation yourself?
Brickteen – Volunteering at SitC
We’re still not over Summer in the City, okay! We want it to be two weeks ago again. We’re not sure this feeling will ever end.
Andy Thompson, who was a volunteer at this and previous years’ SitCs, gives advice to those who might want to be more involved in the event next year and help out with running the show! He’s candid in saying that it’s hard work, but champions the experience as extremely rewarding.
Andy is also wonderful in summing up why he keeps on coming back: “It reinforces my belief in YouTube… I’m not Dan & Phil or Jack & Dean, and you know what? I don’t care. I do [YouTube] this because I really enjoy talking to you guys.”
We teared up hearing that, honestly. Someone needs to turn that into an inspirational poster that we can hang over the hearth at TenEighty HQ!
(And if you want to relive SitC even more, why not check out our photo recaps from Creator Day, Saturday and Sunday!)
Ann Chirisu – Simple Statements Fashion Haul
We can’t express this enough. We. LOVE. Ann Chirisu! No one on YouTube has such diverse content as Ann. She does everything from vlogging, comedy skits, gaming and fashion, always with her own quirky style and amazing editing skillz!
In this video she candidly goes through a fashion haul (have you ever heard anyone be so honest about the pros and cons of a fashion review? LOVE!). Trust us when we say that even if you aren’t usually into fashion hauls, Ann makes this so damn entertaining that you’ll like this video whatever your taste.
Go over and give this wonderful lady some love. Tell her we like her. We want her to know we like her. LOVE US BACK, ANN!
All We Do | Oh Wonder Cover | Dodie Clark and Lucy Moon
Lucy Moon has an eye for creative amazingly beautiful videos. Dodie Clark has one of the most haunting voices in the UK. Bring them together and what have you got? SO MUCH ARTY COOLNESS OMG WE’RE DYING!
Aesthetically, this video is beautiful. Sonically, this video is beautiful. All you want to do is ride the tube and drink from suspect cans with these wonderfully talented women.
We ship it.
Need some more distractions from the ever-looming autumn?
As always we’ve given you a few optional extras for you. Bertie Gilbert & Sammy Paul’s latest collaborative short film, Blue Sushi, dropped this week to critical acclaim. Sit down with an iced lemonade or a hot chocolate (depending on what the weather’s doing) and immerse yourself in this touching story of a trans musician.
If you missed any of the festivals this summer then make sure you live vicariously though Bethan Leadley as she parties at V Festival. We hope we get invited along next year!
And finally for a second dose of Dodie (because who can resist) watch an AMAZING video choc-a-block with advice for any companies working with YouTubers. You listening, brands? Ms. Clark has spoken.
We’re willing to admit that we may have missed a video or two this week, fancy letting us know which? Follow us @TenEightyUK on Twitter or TenEighty UK on Facebook.
