So, let’s be honest – summer is over.
While monsoon-like rain storms have gripped the country in the last week (woah, we’re talking about the weather! Can you tell we’re a UK based publication?), those three days of sunshine we had this year are slowly becoming memories. Now we must face the fact that Christmas is coming.
But, in a last minute attempt to cling on to the summer, we’ve found our top 5 videos from YouTubers enjoying the sun and everything that comes with it. By this we mean the guidelines for these videos are that they were uploaded during the summer months, feature at least one ray of sunshine and/or make reference to the season. It’s highly selective stuff, so grab a cup of tea, wrap up warm and expect tan lines, cocktails and wild holiday fun. Or none of the above.
anti bonanza – Chelsea Fisher & Jimmy Hill
As Chelsea Fisher states early on in this video (in reference to wearing a coat): “It’s the summer – don’t need one.”
Shrewd advice, the likes of which we have come to expect from her and Jimmy Hill on their joint channel.
This particular video continues with the duo celebrating the summer warmth by spending the entire day indoors. At one point there is a scene in a toilet where it’s so dark they have to light the way with their phones. This is then followed by Chelsea and Jimmy running a vlogging workshop and inspiring the next generation of YouTubers.
The video climaxes with them finally going outside and sitting in a park to observe a couple grinding each other on a bench. Ah, summer!
Daniel J. Bueller’s Day Off – Daniel J. Layton
As Daniel J. Layton states mid-way through this video (in reference to summer weather): “…it’s Britain – July sunshine doesn’t exist!”
Subsequently, his day is also spent entirely indoors. Moaning about Jack Howard.
Daniel fills the other few seconds of the video by explaining his ideal holiday, which – strangely – involves being somewhere warm and pleasant, unlike the UK. Said holiday would also centre on the arduous activity of simply sitting down, rather than seeing the sights and the local area. As he frequently stresses throughout the video, sitting is very important to Daniel.
yo, that’s a nice picnic blanket – PJ Liguori
As PJ Liguori states in this video (in reference to eating a stick): “I’m just eating a stick.”
OK, we’ll stop quoting YouTubers now. But he does actually eat a stick and it’s as exciting as it sounds.
PJ’s video contains real sunlight, or maybe it’s just a really great filter, but either way watching it makes you feel warm inside (in the same way that watching a video of a crackling fire also makes you feel really nice and cosy – try it! It’s so authentic it makes you forget how cold and lonely your life probably is).
There’s also – as the title suggests – a pretty sweet picnic blanket, some sword fighting and numerous dogs. Basically everything you wish your summer days were made of, right? We’re feeling nostalgic just watching PJ and his friends, and we weren’t even THERE.
Letters to July 2015 | 12 by Gideon – Emily Diana Ruth
Emily Diana Ruth’s Letters to July videos have now become a staple part of our summer YouTube diet. They are the Ten to our Eighty – without them July just wouldn’t be the same.
There are many to choose from but our all time favourite is by Gideon the cat, who immediately raises the important issue of how hot it can be when you have fur. Obviously, this can lead to, ahem… summertime sadness. Sorry.
But summer is also a time for dreaming and Gideon reflects upon his own future throughout the video, explaining that he pretty much wants to carry on as he is now, eating and sleeping and eating and sleeping. We’re just so glad he took those three days out of his busy schedule to write this letter to July with his thumb-less paw. Nice one, champ.
SUMMER LIFE HACKS – Doug Armstrong
Apparently it was “one billion degrees” when Doug Armstrong filmed this video. Seriously, the summer just can’t get it right can it?
Doug’s life hacks include how to take your tshirt off at the beach in a way that avoids you becoming a sad, sweaty, unattractive, tangled mess of human limbs. Can you tell that particular hack hit home?
This is the kind of super optimistic video that makes you smack the table with both hands after every tip while shouting “damnit Doug, that’s amazing!” – and then turning the volume up further because you can’t hear him over the sound of the rain and wind outside your window.
AND THERE’S YOUR QUOTA OF POST-SUMMER MISERY FROM TENEIGHTY.
We jest, there was a ton of great things that happened this summer regardless of the weather, like Summer in the City! Why not check out our coverage of the weekend?
