The UK general election is on May 7. Yep, it’s sprung up on all of us…
But don’t worry if you’re still unsure how you’re going to vote. We’ve been keeping tabs of all your favourite YouTubers and the videos they’ve been uploading about politics.
Here are our favourite picks from the bunch. Hopefully after watching these you’ll come away feeling empowered and ready to pick your team. If not, that’s OK too. At least you’re making an effort to inform yourself and that’ll make the decision easier when you eventually come to it.
5. Listen up ^ | Rebecca Brown
Rebecca Brown was tagged by Bite The Ballot last year to inform us on 1) what she doesn’t like about politics, 2) what she would change about the country’s political situation, and 3) why we should register to vote, and the result is something we feel everyone needs to watch.
Throughout the video, Beckie makes – among other things – a great case as to why young people should vote and why politicians need to take our thoughts and opinions into consideration. She also discusses creating a diverse government filled with members from every walks of life and the further inclusion of women on the national government stage.
Still unsure of who to vote for this Thursday? We suggest thinking about these questions and using your answers to guide your decision. Vote for the party you feel best aligns with your responses.
4. How to Spoil the Ballot | Hannah Witton
While we don’t openly advocate spoiling your ballot, we understand that some of you won’t feel a connection with any of the candidates running for office this year, and thus we thought we’d show you this brilliant video by the one and only Hannah Witton.
Hannah shows us 25 creative ways in which we can spoil our ballot, ranging from simply writing “None of the Above” to voting for your iPhone to even drawing V’s from V for Vendetta.
Very creative, Hannah.
3. Why I’m Voting UKIP | Jazza John
The first in a series of videos outlining why he’d vote for each party in this year’s general election, Jazza John‘s “Why I’m Voting…” series is an objective and informative way to garner the facts you need to make an informed choice at the polls this Thursday.
Throughout the short series, Jazza outlines each party’s platform and details the most important aspects of each, explaining everything in a way that makes sense. While some can claim he’s playing devil’s advocate, others will see the series for what it’s worth, and we personally love Jazza for taking the time to make it.
We just have one question: have you considered running to be our next prime minister, Jazza?
2. The Game of Thrones guide to UK elections | Mashable & Jon Snow
Planning to vote Thursday, but don’t know much about the parties or UK politics in general? Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Well then, this is the video for you!
Mashable teamed up with Channel 4’s Jon Snow (yes, the real Jon Snow) to make this video, explaining the upcoming election in a way that’s both understandable and hilarious. We mean, is there any better way to understand politics than comparing Britain’s potential leaders to the likes of the Lannisters and the Starks? We don’t think so.

1. Message From The LOST Generation | Suli Breaks
Topping our list is a musical entry from Suli Breaks. Calling out the previous generation for its treatment of the younger generation – our generation, the lost generation – it’s a song with a message, one that needs to be heard.
While not related to the upcoming general election, Suli’s video preaches something we feel needs to be said. Our generation is going to inherit the world someday and that someday is fast approaching. Those who are in power need to understand that and give us a voice, accept what we have to say and what we believe in.
There has been much debate recently over the emphasis (or lack thereof) politicians have placed on the votes of young people. If those in power gave this video a watch and listened to its message, the country would be a much better place.
And there you have it…
