What’s with Brits and American candy?
Seriously, type “American Candy” into the YouTube search bar and look at the results; we’re obsessed! Since we seem to love it so much, we here at TenEighty have decided to compile a list of our favourite taste-testing videos for your entertainment. We apologize to our dentists in advance.
5. BRITISH TRYING AMERICAN CANDY FOR THE FIRST TIME – Sam King
It’s raining candy, hallelujah, it’s raining candy, Amen! (Yes, we know it doesn’t have the same ring to it. Let us have our fun.)
Starting off our list is Sam King and his video of Twinkies, Hershey’s Bars, Tootsie Rolls and Pop Rocks. Sam had us literally laughing out loud throughout, especially while trying the Pop Rocks. He also tries the infamous Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme bar and, you guessed it, falls in love. Seriously, why are British YouTubers obsessed with this chocolate bar? Can someone please send us one so we can understand what all the fuss is about?
Sam, while the video was good and all, we thought we’d let you know you offended Clare when you insulted Tootsie Rolls. (She may or may not have an unhealthy obsession with them.)
4. BRITISH BOY TRIES AMERICAN CANDY – Chai Cameron
Chai Cameroni covers all the basics in this video: chocolate, candy and cereal. While he pretty much hates the majority of what he tries, we have to say he had us dying of laughter once he tried a Reese’s Pieces cup – seriously, a couple of us fell out of our chairs.
He also treats us to some pretty creative rapping throughout, which leads us to ask: Chai, have you ever thought about changing careers? We think you and Caspar Lee would make the perfect rap duo.
What one can surmise from Chai’s video is that he definitely wouldn’t be able to survive in America. We mean, he hates Froot Loops! FROOT LOOPS. You crazy, boy.
3. AFRICANS TRY AMERICAN CANDY – Caspar Lee
Caspar is always goods for a few laughs, so it’s almost a guaranteed good time when he and his friend try American candy for the first time. Along with a few near-death experiences – he chokes on a jelly bean (no, we’re not lying) – we get to see the boys make out with a gobsmacker, which, looking back, we don’t necessarily think we needed to see. Seriously, we’re still having nightmares over it.
2. American Candy Tasting with Grace Helbig – Oli White
Let’s travel back in time to good ole 2013. You know, the year Oli White met up with everyone’s favourite US vlogger Grace Helbig for this blind-folded candy taste test.
Get ready for the fear and innuendos, as Grace gets Oli to taste and guess her top five favourite candies of all time. We have to say, Oli’s pretty good at guessing, but we genuinely felt bad when Grace had him taste a spoonful of mayonnaise. Seriously, we cringed. That stuff is nasty.
Luckily for us, Oli was able to get his payback by having Grace taste test a push-pop, which had us crying from laughter.
1. BRITISH TWINS TRY AMERICAN CANDY – Niki & Sammy Albon
Did you really think we could create this list without putting the UK’s favourite twins in the top spot? (No, we’re not talking about Jack and Finn. We mean everyone’s other favourite set of twins.)
Niki and Sammy are a riot in this video and rate their candy in the most British way possible: with the Union Jack. The boys are quite right that people from the US are obsessed with peanut butter, but we can’t excuse their hatred for Tootsie Rolls. Seriously, we’re tired of hearing Clare complain, so can someone please send her a bag of these sweets to make her feel better?
We loved the twins’ serenade to the Baby Ruth bar, but it does worry us that they had trouble opening a box of Sweet Tarts. Boys, that candy is meant for children. If they can open the box, but you can’t… Well, let’s just say we worry for you sometimes.
So there you have it…
