It’s February and you know what that means…
No, we don’t either. But we do know that lots of YouTubers have been hard at work this week to bring us some great stuff, and we’re about to shove it in your faces. Enjoy.
In Lieu of Flowers – Over17Mirrors
Sophie has new pink hair and new edition of ‘Up, Down & I Just Don’t Get It’ – it’s all a bit too much for us to handle at once.
Her topics range from the customer service given by LUSH employees, UCAS procrastination, her newfound culinary prowess and whether we should give January more of a chance rather than the traditional hatred.
This video also features One Direction memorabilia – we mean, come on. It has everything.
Are SELFIES bad for you? – justkissmyfrog
Leena Normington also has pink hair. Regardless: are you sick of feeling persecuted for simply taking photos of your face? Are there older people in your life who think you’re vain just because you like to preserve the fact that you did wake up like this? Fear not, flawless reader, we’ve found the answer.
Following a refreshing look back on Kim Kardashian’s attempt to break the Internet (in summary – it’s a pretty useful tool, Kim, why would you do that to us?!) Leena goes on to deconstruct what it means to document life and your own story. Turns out being able to take a photo of anything – let alone your lovely appearance – hasn’t always been easy, so we should all take advantage of that front-facing camera!
Now we wait patiently for the inevitable follow-up video in which she defends selfie sticks.
A Funny Cat Video – charlieissocoollike
Cats and cute boys, yeah even we’re rolling our eyes at this one but seriously – Charlie McDonnall’s introduction to the latest member of his household is a nice one.
Just like Charlie*, Gideon the cat has previous experience in gangs and assaulting old ladies. Will their friendship pan out? We think it might, providing he learns how to use a litter tray correctly. Follow their adventures together on Gideon’s very own channel, kittenissocoollike, where he has already amassed over twenty thousand subscribers…
*For legality’s sake we have to point out that this statement is completely unfounded.
BROWNIE COOKIES (BROOKIES!) – Doug Armstrong
Fetch your bib and make sure you’re well hydrated because you’re about to spend four minutes salivating.
We’ve all tried to be a bit experimental in the kitchen every now and then with most of us leaving the results of our hard work in the bin, but Doug Armstrong has managed to create what might be the greatest fusion of sugar, flour and butter ever.
With helpful instructions throughout (including how to ‘plop’ the mixture onto the baking tray) he shows us that to get anywhere in the kitchen you have to sample the goods at every single step of the way – often twice to ensure the quality is up to scratch. And rightly so.
WARNING: at one point Doug says the word ‘moist’.
Young & Depressed | Vlog-doc – Harry Hitchens
Following last week’s video from Jack Harries (urging people to talk about mental health) Harry Hitchens has interviewed several of his friends to explore what it means to be depressed.
Their accounts of dealing with depression over the last few years are revealing and honest, perfectly encapsulating how you can help people in your own life who may be going through something similar. Remember, there’s always someone who will listen if you need to talk.
More treats for your eyes
After a three month hiatus Sam Locock has returned with an in-depth look at her use of sarcasm and overall emotional investment in stuff. Look out for the ‘sonion’ reference.
Ghost Busters fan? Everyone’s favourite bearded dude Paul Neafcy gives us his take on an all-female cast for the reboot and also tackles the idea of a Black James Bond (*gasp!*).
That’s your lot. Did we miss any videos out? Tweet @TenEightyUK and tell us what you enjoyed this week or find TenEighty UK on Facebook.
