The weather is cold now. Like, really cold. When your alarm goes off and you’re all snug in bed the last thing you want to do is go out into the damp. At TenEighty we’ve been fantasizing about going on a cruise with Alfie and Jim, we can’t be the only ones!
Alas we can’t all go on a free cruise, so for the rest of us, we have to persist in living vicariously through others. And what better way to do that other than watch YouTube. Are we right?
Here’s our selection of this week’s best of UK YouTube. Enjoy!
COSMIC DIVIDE | Bertie Gilbert
Following the debut of his Hollywood-funded short at Buffer Fest last month, Bertie Gilbert returns with this little three minute video to help tide us over until his next big release.
Featuring some lovely cinematography as Bertie wanders around London, a thoughtful monologue, and a good dollop of artistic ambiguity, Bertie keeps on impressing us with his filmmaking talent. Even if it is starting to make us lament our own lack of creative faculty here in the TenEighty office.
You couldn’t release one completely rubbish video for us could you Bertie, make us feel a bit better about it? No? Never mind then, keep up the great work!
Movember for Beginners | Ben Brown
Yes, yes, we know, we’re in the last full week of November and we should have probably covered Movember before.
For those of you that don’t know, Movember is a fund raising movement to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer. To do this, men grow moustaches, as you do. And we’re not adverse to a bit of facial hair here at TenEighty.
One outstanding participant is the globe trotting Ben Brown, who has been growing his gorgeous, blonde top-lip tufts for the last few weeks. But here he trims it for the first time, so that his girlfriend is able to not get tickled when she kisses him. All together now: “Awwwwwwwww! <3”.
We at TenEighty have also been trying to partake in this worthwhile cause, but we seem to have the same problem as…
My “Moustache” | Charlie McDonnell
We feel Charlie McDonnell’s pain in not being able to grow a substantial moustache, and envy all those who can (damn you Ben Brown!). “I don’t want to have a beard. I just want to have beard potential,” is something that really resonates with us.
We love the self referential humour in this as well. A great return to cut-away skits and we applaud you Charlie. Clap clap.
We also share Charlie’s desire to have cute, little baby animals around us. Kittens! Kittens for all!
This was also a chance for him to plug his show on Radio 1 as one of the UK YouTubers giving broadcast a go at the moment. You can listen to his show here.
It’s always lovely to see Charlie sit down and vlog. He was many people’s first vlogger, and continues to inspire thousands upon thousands. Keep up the good work!
Reacting to Old Profile Pictures | Jimmy0010
Another old hand at this YouTube game is the legendary Jimmy Hill, and in this video he tackles one of the classics: reacting to your old profile photos.
We actually think Jimmy looks gorgeous in all of these photos, and can see no evidence of him aging into a “haggard, troll-like beast”. We especially liked the black suit with black shirt ensemble. Hubba hubba.
If anything this shows a truth that, no matter how awkward you look in your formative years, there is hope that you too will blossom into a glorious swan, just like Mr. Hill.
My Boobs Are Bad | Claira Hermet
Claira Hermet is a TV presenter-turned-YouTuber in order to document her journey to having her breast tissue removed in a double mastectomy due to her high risk of getting breast cancer.
She has a whole host of videos, some of which talk about losing her mother and sister to the disease, but there are some really lighthearted comical gems on her channel. Check them out and help raise awareness by sharing them!
“Want, want, want, never gets.” That’s what our mothers said to us. But because we like you we’ll give you an extra couple videos to keep you ticking over.
The wonderful Myles Dyer (aka Blade376) is making a gradual return to our screens after a hiatus, being one of the YouTubers introducing topics in the upcoming #LeadersLive live streams on Bite News. He introduced democracy, and we’re very happy to have him back on YouTube.
Another YouTuber doing amazing things with her channel is the lovely Lindsay Atkin, who was pushing for Anti-Bullying Week all of last week. In this video of hers she teams up with some book tubers to give some advice through literature about dealing with bullying.
Want even more? Why not check out last week’s Round-Up if you missed it, or our cover interviews with Bertie Gilbert and Lindsay Atkin!
