It’s been a super busy week at TenEighty HQ…
Apart from launching our new How-To & Style column, The Style Slice, we have been busy bees at VidFest UK in MCM Expo Comic Con, seeing some ghoulish cosplay and trying to figure out what the plural of Pikachu is (we settled tentatively on Pikachus).
But do not fret! We wouldn’t neglect bringing you, our little pumpkins (NB: lame attempt at a Halloween reference), a selection of the best YouTube output from the UK from the last seven days. Scroll down and watch, pretties!
Tinchy Stryder & The Chuckle Brothers | To Me, To You [Music Video]: SBTV
We are huge fans of a good mashup and naturally jumped for joy when we discovered this little number which involves children’s TV from the 90s, a rapper from the 2000s and a YouTube tycoon / 15th richest person under 30 in the UK, Jamal Edwards of SBTV.
What pains us the most here at TenEighty Magazine is how a lot of our younger readers won’t even know who the Chuckle Brothers are, so for you, we apologise in advance. Trust us though, for everyone in their twenties, this is a ‘to-me-to-you’ blast from the past!
Unnecessary Otter | Unnecessary Series Ep 1
We exclusively announced Hazel Hayes’ plan to rekindle Unecessary Otter for a second series way back at the last VidFest UK, so we were curious to see where she would go with the series.
Thanks to a little bit of help of Project Library director and YouTuber, Sammy Paul, the series has transformed with story arcs and character progression and set changes to match. It’s so shiny, like a vampire’s skin, and we love it!
We won’t spoil it for you but let’s just say if you watch it on a Friday, things might get a bit Freaky! Early 2000s movie references FTW.
Ghosts Aren’t Red | Jack & Dean
Yet another directing triumph for Sammy Paul comes in the form of the new offering from our BFFs Jack & Dean. Halloween themed, saturated with social commentary and sexy ghosts, we really believe Ghosts Aren’t Red is one of the best videos J&D have ever made.
There is little we can do to prepare you for this video of distilled genius. There’s more hilarity packed into their video than in most half hour TV sitcoms. Good work chaps.
Blame – Calvin Harris & John Newman – Cover By Toby Randall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPqRtGFMqiY
We had the pleasure of catching up with the spookily young Toby Randall at VidFest UK (he’s just 13) but were so impressed by his voice, his maturity and his high level stalking skills. Yes, we’re talking about THAT photo.
Toby is one of those Vine superstars, who has branched out and captured a YouTube audience too. If you haven’t checked out his cover songs already then make sure you keep your eye on him. He’ll be making waves by the time he takes his GCSEs.
Witch Halloween Tutorial | Melon Lady
You’re probably going to at least one costume themed party this week for Halloween. For any of you who are looking for a quick fix for your costume, we thought TenEighty Magazine cover star Helen Anderson would give an easy makeup tutorial fit for an undead ball. Contact lenses optional, obv.
Helen Anderson has a great range of videos, from vlogs to makeup tutorials and the occasional silly tag game. Go check her out, not just for the Halloween advice, and you won’t be disappointed.
You want moooooooooore? Mooooooooooooooore?
OK fine, we’ll stop it with the half-arsed Halloween puns. Here’s a little dusting of sugar over your pumpkin pie just to tide you over until Bonfire Night… or Thanks Giving… or whatever comes next in your nation’s cultural calendar.
If you like music a little more acoustic and folky than the average YouTube cover, check out Dave Bullas from Music From Blue Skies. He’s an old-school YouTuber who has his hands in many non-musical pies, including Summer in the City.
Finally, if you fancy some political stimulation then check out this interview with Russell Brand, now a YouTuber with his own series The Trews, on the informative channel from the UK, Truth Loader. What do you think?
That’s your lot for this week. If you think we’ve missed anything then drop us a Tweet with your suggestions!
