The Upload Live founder goes on the road for the ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ Tour this week with Danny Gruff, Robbie Coles and Matthias Harris having announced it will be his last tour as a musician.
Dave J Giles announced last month that he would be heading out what could be, depending on ticket sales, a final nine-date run across the United Kingdom with his full band. In a video posted on 30 September, he confirmed it would indeed be his final tour and outlined the financial difficulties of being an unsigned musician.
“I know I said that if I broke even I’d carry on,” he said, “but at this rate the amount of work that will go into getting that to happen by my and by all of you will almost not warrant carry on. It was supposed to be easier than this by now. I’m currently up all through the night sending messages to people trying (and basically begging, which is incredibly humiliating) to get them to come to the tour, making small progress. However, I’m really not sure my body likes doing this kind of thing anymore.”
He went on to explain how he came to his conclusion and stated he would still continue uploading covers and original songs to his YouTube channel.
“I’ve just come to the conclusion that I can’t really afford to keep doing these tours.” he said. “They’re taking up too much time and energy of mine to just keep going backwards. I could keep arranging Upload tours, I could still perform at them, I could just let other people perform at them, but ultimately, if that audience isn’t buying into the ting that I really wanted to do to begin with, which was be able to play my own songs in front of people, if that’s not working then it’s not really worth it.”
He ended the video by letting fans know the final shows would be a lot of fun and that they should come out if they’re able to. In the video’s description, he let it be known that he’ll still be doing house shows and will most likely tour if one was offered to him.
