In the run up to Summer in the City 2014, TenEighty share five of the best SitC moments from years gone by.
Who doesn’t love a fresh hit of nostalgia? Here at TenEighty, we often look back fondly on past Summer In The City gatherings. For those of you that have never attended the gathering, consider this a taster of what we expect this year… although swooping fringes are so 2010. Get with the times.
Summer In The City 2010 – The Official Video
The official video for SitC 2010 is at least 64% responsible for the dramatic increase in number of attenders when it came to 2011. The masterpiece by old-school YouTuber CasioClark shows the gathering in the glory days, when it was nothing more than a group of people hanging out in a field. This official video also highlights the Saturday evening event – the crowd singing along to Bar On A by Greg Holden literally gives us goosebumps.
Bonus points if you can pot the occasional cameo by Chris Kendall, Jack Howard and Charlie McDonnell sporting a Dailybooth t-shirt. Remember *Dailybooth*?
Khyan goes to Summer in the City 2011
No SitC video would be complete without the painfully awkward glances of Khyan. He manages to capture the essence of the 2011 gathering with a well-curated montage of SiTC moments.
The video is packed with even more cameos, including Tim H, Tom Ridgewell and Brad from WOTO. That said, judging by some of the YouTuber reactions, we’re not sure if Khyan is actually friends with the people he is filming…
Summer in the City ’12
This beautiful montage by Ray Roberts highlights the transition from park to palace. The soundbites alone highlight the growth of the gathering and we start to see the development of celebrity culture within the YouTube community.
The video also features familiar faces including Oli White, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Bertie Gilbert. One person describes the gathering as “life changing”… probably because of the ball pit – what more could you wish for?!
Summer in the City 2013 by Benjamin Cook | The Snap
Virgin Media put together an upbeat video of SitC 2013 for their YouTube channel TheSnapVM, narrated by YouTube’s finest Benjamin Cook and filmed by Hayden Hillier-Smith. Panels, meet & greets and performances are all covered in this concise recap of the gathering – with talking heads from Troye Sivan, Hank Green from the vlogbrothers and thrill-seeker Louis Cole. We can really feel the energy of the creators and fans as they talk about the intensity of the weekend – so who knows what’s in store for this year. Eek!
YouTube @ Summer in the City 2013 – London
With SITC 2014 at Alexandra Palace just days away, we couldn’t help featuring another video from last year at the same venue. You know you’ve made it big when YouTube itself is covering the gathering you started in a field five years ago! This montage of SITC 2013 demonstrates the great aspects of the Youtube fan culture, with Louise Pentland, Jack & Finn Harries and the boys from The RH Experience all shown having a fun time in front of their subscribers.
The video strikes a balance between the commercial aspects of SITC and the creator-orientated elements from its roots. The video also draws attention to the key question playing on our minds: will there be a sandpit and free smoothies this year? Now that’s a deal breaker…
So there we have it!
Our summary of five of the best SITC moments so far – here’s hoping for another video to add this time next year. We even managed to avoid including a single “Free Hugs” sign – nobody wants those #RealTalk. Anyway, we hope you’re excited for this years event!
